For quite a long time in Europe , there had been an anti-Jewish tendency (反犹太人倾向), because those early Christians (基督教徒) believed that it was the Jews who stuck Jesus (耶稣) onto the Cross.
During Hitler's time, things became worse. Hitler had divided human beings into three classes , and regarded the Jewry as the lowest one. He believed that under the same condition, a lower race would develop more quickly on its number, and grow up like parasites (寄生虫).
When he took office, his foolish anti-Jewish theory became more firm because of the political and economic conditions of that time. Hitler hoped that he could firmly control the German situation by means of wiping out the Jews and taking away their properties. His theory made the Fascists (法西斯主义者)begin to kill the Jews in large numbers since July, 1934. As a result, about six million Jews were killed during the World War Ⅱ.

The elephant is another animal that lives in groups. An elephant herd usually has from twenty to forty members. The elephants in the herd depend on one another for help in time of trouble.
The leader of the group is usually a wise and strong female. She travels at the head of the herd and is followed by the other females and their young. The bull (雄的) elephants follow last. When danger threatens (威胁), the bulls form a circle around the weaker animals and guard them.
The members of the herd are loyal to one another. A sick or wounded elephant is not left behind to die. If an elephant is sick, the whole herd stops traveling until he gets well. When an elephant is injured, two others walk on both sides of him and support him with their bodies. When a member of the herd is caught in a trap, the others try to free him.
Elephants are fond of the youngsters in the group and give them special care. They help young animals stay afloat when the herd crosses a river. They work together to rescue a calf that has wandered into a dangerous place.

It is difficult for nearly every family to teach their children to be responsible for(对…负责) homework, but with one of the following suggestions, you really can get your children to help at home.
If you give your children the impression that they can never do anything quite right, then they will regard themselves as unfit or unable persons. Unless children believe they can succeed, they will never become totally independent (独立的).
My daughter Carla's fifth-grade teacher made every child in her class feel special. When students received less than a perfect test score, she would point out what they had mastered and declared (宣布) firmly they could learn what they had missed.
You can use the same technique when you evaluate (评价) your child's work at home. Don't always scold and give a lot of praise instead. Talk about what he has done right, not about what he has not done. If your child completes a difficult task, reward him with a Sunday trip or a ball game with Dad.
Learning is a process (过程) of trying and failing and trying and succeeding. If you teach your children not to fear a mistake or a failure, they will learn faster and achieve success at last.

A special lab at the university of Chicago is busy only at night. It is a dream lab where researchers are at work studying dreamers. Their findings have shown that everyone dreams from three to seven times a night. While the subjects-usually students-are asleep, special machines record their brain waves and eye movements as well as the body movements that tell the end of a dream. Surprisingly, all subjects sleep soundly. Once the dream has started, the dreamer's eyes become more active. As soon as the machine shows that the dream is over, the sleeper is wakened up . He sits up, records his dream, and goes back to sleep-perhaps to dream some more. Researchers have found that if the dreamer is wakened immediately after his dream, he can usually recall the entire dream. If he is allowed to sleep even five more minutes, his memory of the dream will have gone.

As late as 1800, women's only place was in the home. The idea of women in the business world was unthinkable. Men were certain that no woman could do a good job outside her home. This was such a widely accepted idea that when the well-known Bronte sisters began writing books in 1846, they had to sign their books with men's names instead.
Teaching was the first profession (职业)open to women soon after 1800. But even that was not an easy profession for women to enter because most schools and colleges were open only to men. Oberlin College in Ohio was the first college in America to accept women.
Hospital nursing became respectable work for women only after Nightingale became famous. Seeing that she was not only a nurse but also a rich and well-educated woman, people began to believe it was possible for women to nurse the sick and still be“ladies”. Miss Nightingale opened England's first training school for nurses in 1860.
The invention of the typewriter (打字机) in 1867 helped to bring women out of the home and into the business world. By1990, thousands of women were working at real jobs in schools, hospitals, and offices in both England and America. Some women even managed to become doctors or lawyers. The idea that women could work in the business world had been accepted.
