　　The researchers found that aspirin(阿司匹林)had an even greater effect on women aged 65 and older．Those who took aspirin were 30 percent less likely to have a stroke(中风)caused by a blood clot．They were also less likely to suffer a heart attack than those given a placebo(安慰剂)．

　　However, the study found that aspirin did not lower the risk(冒险)of heart attack in younger women．And there were more cases of stomach bleeding in the women who took aspirin than in those who did not．Experts say this shows that, in general, the risks from aspirin use in younger women could be greater than the good it might do．

　　Aspirin can cause bleeding．It can also cause a bad reaction with other medicines．People who want to begin aspirin treatment are advised to talk to their doctors first．

　　Experts are not sure why men and women react differently to aspirin treatment．But Doctor Buring notes at least one similarity．She says aspirin has been clearly shown to improve the survival chances for anyone who has already had a heart attackor a stroke．

　　Allan goes everywhere with Brigitte Anderson, a 54-year-old secretary．He moves around her office at work and goes shopping with her．“Most people don't seem to mind Allan, ” says Brigitte, who thinks he is wonderful．“He's my fourth child, ” she says．She may think of him and treat him that way, buying his food, paying his health bills and his taxes, but in fact Allan is a dog．

　　Brigitte and Allan live in Sweden, a country where everyone is expected to lead an orderly life according to rules laid down(颁布)by the government, which also provides a high level of care for its people．This level of care costs money．

　　People in Sweden pay taxes on everything, so they aren't surprised to find that owning a dog means yet more taxes．Some people are paying as much as 500 Swedish kronor in taxes a year for the right to keep their dog, money that is spent by the government on dog hospitals and sometimes medical treatment for a dog that falls ill．However, most such treatment is expensive, so owners often descide to pay health and even life insurance for their dog．

　　In Sweden dog owners must pay for any damage their dog does．A Swedish Kennel Club official explains what this means：if your dog runs out on the road and gets hit by a passing car, you, as the owner, have to pay for any damage done to the car, even if your dog has been killed in the accident．

　　Two policemen stopped Andrew Kershaw in his sports car one night, because he was speeding in the street of the town．The young man was very drunk．He knew he was in trouble, so he decided to make fun of them．He was a law-student at the university, so he knew the law very well, better than most people．

　　When the policemen came to his car, Andrew asked one of the policemen to write down in his notebook everything they said．The policeman had to do this because it is the law, although people don't usually know it．The policeman tested Andrew's breath and the breathalyser showed that he had too much alcohol(乙醇)in his blood．This all took a long time because the policeman had to write down everything that he or the policeman said．

　　In the end, by law, the policeman had to ask Andrew if he wanted to say anything．Andrew decided that he had two things to say and the policemen had to write down．The first thing was：“Please don't hit me again, officer!” And the second thing was：“Does the other officer want ￡5,000?” Of course, the poor policeman had to read this in court, in front of the judge, and he was very embarrassed(难堪)．Andrew, who was in court, thought it was very funny, until the judge took away his license for a year and fined him ￡100, ￡90 for drunk driving, and ￡10 for his rudeness!

　　Your body, which has close relations with the food you eat, is the most important thing you own, so it needs proper treatment and proper nourishment(营养)．The old saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” is not as silly as some peoplethink．

　　The body needs fruit and vegetables because they contain vitamin C．Many people take extra vitamins in pill form, believing that these will make them healthy．But a good diet is made up of nourishing food and this gives all the vitamins you need．The body doesn't need or use extra vitamins, so why waste money on them?

　　In the modern western world, many people are too busy to bother(操心)about eating properly．They throw anything into their stomachs, eating hurriedly and carelessly．The list of illnesses caused or made worse by bad eating habits is frightening．

　　What are the riskiest sports you can do? Well, if you thought of “dangerous sports” like hang-gliding, parachuting, or scuba-diving, you'd be wrong, because they're not, in fact, that dangerous．

　　According to recent statistics(统计资料), the sport that causes most injuries is rugby, and football is a close second．Despite the popularity of these games, and although we teach school children to play them, they injure more people per 1, 000 than motor-racing, skiing, or scuba-diving．

　　Of course, people do get hurt in “adventure sports” and the most dangerous is climbing, which kills eight people a year．But it is not always obvious which activities are dangerous．For instance, two people die every year in hang-gliding accidents, but the same number are killed by badminton, whereas six people a year die in fishing accidents! So “exciting” isn't always the same as “dangerous”．

　　This is even more true when you consider the activities of everyday life．Many more people die due to accidents in the home than from sports of any kind．Did you know that 160 people per year are killed by toothpaste and 3，600 are killed by curtains(although how this happens is unknown)?And if you really want to live dangerously, then have a cigarette, or get in a car, because the three biggest killers in the UK are heart disease, cancer, and car accidents, in that order．So to live longer, stop smoking, sell the car, and start jumping out of aeroplanes!
