For those who are conditioned to think that learning only happens in a classroom, the world of self-learning can be a little daunting. How do we best take1of these new opportunities?
Your interest in the subject is the essential driver of success. You can’t learn what you do not want to learn. Emotion is an important part of the learning2. If you are even moderately interested in a subject, give yourself a chance. The key is to get started. If you can create some pleasurable3, you may find that the subject grows on you.
Don’t expect to understand things, much less remember them, the first time you study them. Trust that things will get clearer4your brain comes to grips with new information. It is like a cross-word puzzle. As you start to put the pieces together, or string the words together, the full picture becomes clearer. The brain learns all the time, but5its own schedule. Learning does not take place according to a schedule laid down by a curriculum or teacher. Some things are easier to learn than others. Some things just take6to click in. Keep at it, and you will gradually find that things that seem difficult at first , will become easy with time.
Your brain is struggling to form patterns to7new input from your learning activities. Sometimes, no matter how long you focus on one subject, your brain is not going to pick it up. If you are stuck, move8. Then cover the same general information from a different source, a different book, or a podcast, or an online lecture or a video. Try to become a grazing learner, roaming the countryside, 9a feedlot learner, just standing there in one spot. The broader your base, the easier it is to learn. Just as the “rich get richer”, the more you know, 10you can learn.
Take full advantage of the Internet, iTunes, and11mobile devices, not to mention good old-fashioned books and magazines. Learn during “dead time”. Listen in your car, on the train, or12jogging. Have your learning with you while waiting in the doctor’s office, or listen while checking out at the supermarket. Anytime is13time. Remember, you are learning through exposure, not by nailing things down. It is more like moisture accumulation in a14, rather than building a brick wall.
The more varied your learning content, and the more varied the ways in which you learn, the 15the puzzle will become. Different learning activities suit different people, at different times of the day. Vary your activities in order to keep your interest level16. Even if listening and reading work best for you, treat yourself to the odd video lecture, or get-together with other learners. This will renew your batteries.
The “loneliness of the distance learner” is a thing of the17. Join a learning communityon the web, where members share their knowledge and experience. Search for the communities that suit your interests and learning style. You will find encouragement, advice and stimulus from fellow learners,18from tutors, teachers and coaches. In these communities, you can measure your progress against your own goals, or compare your experience19that of other learners. You can even teach and help others, which is a great way to learn.
Never has it been easier nor more exciting to be a learner. Let constant learning be a major part of your life-style. The20will be constant, personally, socially, and professionally.

Like poorly managed stress, anger that isn’t handled in a healthy way can be not only uncomfortable, but even damaging to one’s health and personal life. Consider the following research on anger:
One study from the University of Washington School of Nursing studied1problems in husbands and wives. Researchers cited(引用) previous evidence that anger problems and depressive symptoms have been linked to all major2of death, but found that wives specifically found a greater association between anger and3of depression,4men tended to instead experience an5between anger and health problems.
According to a study from Ohio State University, those who had less control over their anger6to heal more slowly from wounds. Researchers gave blisters(起疱膏) to 98 participants and found that, after 8 days, those who had less control over their anger also tended to be7healers.8, those participants also tended to have more cortisol (a stress hormone) in their system during the blistering procedure,9that they may be more stressed by difficult situations as well.
10study from Harvard School of Public Health studied hostility(敌对行为) in men and found that those with11rates of hostility not only had poorer pulmonary functioning (breathing problems), but experienced higher rates of decline as they aged.
Research with children and12shows that anger13is important for the younger set as well. Findings showed that youth who cope inappropriately with their anger are at greater14for problem-ridden(受…支配的) interpersonal relationships. Their15is also at risk; those who cope poorly with anger tend to have more negative16when it comes to both mental and general health. This highlights the fact that anger management is an important skill to17early.
These are just a few of the many studies linking anger to18and emotional health problems, from the obvious to the19. Because poorly managed anger presents such a significant problem in so many areas of life, it’s important to take steps toward learning and using healthy anger management techniques in daily life,20stress management techniques.

“To meet a rich husband, 2, have children, and then retire and travel!” she replied 3.
I laughed, but we became close friends. For the whole 4 we would leave class together and 5 nonstop. I was always listening as she 6 her wisdom and experience.
At the end of the term Rose was invited to make a 7. I’11 never forget her words. “We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old 8 because we stop playing. I put a package of small gold colored foil (金箔) angels in my purse after my illness. The package was 1 and the angels fell out into my purse.
On the way home, I was at the store 2 for something and change was 3. I dug in, got the change and gave it to the 4. I didn’t realize there were also angels sticking (粘) to the 5! Well, she said, “Oh, angels for 6! Thank you! Come back and see me anytime!”
This 7 several times that day, with almost the same reaction at 8 places, with different people. So now I keep the angels in there and 9 dispense (分发) them with the change.
This little 10 has led to some interesting conversations --- for example, when I did go back to the same 11 where the lady received the 12 angles, she told me how much she 13 them and kept them by her bed.
She then told me, “I was 14 as a child, I couldn’t walk or talk. My grandparents told me that if I didn’t 15 I would be healed because the angel was 16 me. I started praying, and within a year I was totally healed! I’m so 17 for this healing!”
She also told me that the first time she 18me, she thought I was an angel! I then gave her some more angels, and 19 she acted like I had given her a million dollars!
What a lovely 20!
I plan on always keeping the little gold angels in my purse and dispensing them everywhere. When I do, I don’t say anything --- I just give them with the change.
