In 1867, an engineer named John Roebling was given the job of building a bridge to connect(连接)New York with Long Island．
Roebling thought about the idea all the time．He couldn’t get the bridge off his 1 ．But many people thought it was 2 to do the job．
The project started well, but only a few months later Roebling was killed in a terrible accident．The following month his son, Washington, was asked to 3 his work．

For 11 years Washington tapped out his words with his finger, until the bridge was completed．Today the spectacular(壮观的)Brooklyn Bridge stands in all its glory (荣耀)．It tells the world a 10 story, but also a story of determination．
