     I believe in the power of the well-written thank-you letters. My sister and I were taught at a very early age to write thank-you letters for birthday and Christmas gifts. We carefully copied addresses from our mom’s address book into our own pretty little books. We wrote our letters on December 26th at the latest every year. It was an important activity in our home, and it has turned me into an eager thank-you-letter writer as an adult. Nearly every Monday morning I sit down with my favorite pen and write a few thank-you letters. I write them for parties I attend, dinners I’m fed, or just to thank a friend for listening. Several years ago I even sent my mom a thank-you letter to thank her for teaching me to count my blessings on paper.

    Sending letters of thanks out into the world has made me more appreciative of the love, support, and kindness I receive daily. I am more motivated to do kind things for others when I feel appreciated, and I feel that I keep kindness and generosity living by genuinely expressing my thanks.

    This weekend in Sydney, Australia “lights out” activity will be staged. Sydney people will keep lights off for an hour, so that the Australia’s largest city will be thrown into darkness in the night.
    In Sydney, a large number of businessmen have been added to this action plan. The government officials and tens of thousands of people have also answered the call enthusiastically.
    The landscapes of Sydney such as Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbor Bridge and dozens of skyscrapers will keep lights off for one hour from 7:30, and even McDonald’s big “M” logo will be switched off. But its significant lighting, such as the flying lights and the traffic lights will be on as usual.
    This event is called “Earth Hour”. One of the organizers says this action will encourage Australians to switch off unnecessary lights in their daily life.
    “Our aim to do this is very simple. We do not want people to return to live in cave time. We just want to reduce greenhouse gases into the atmosphere as much as possible.” He also said, “One-hour  black out is only the beginning, and the next step is to improve people’s awareness of energy saving”.
