Most countries celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May．On this day, it is common for mothers to receive presents and special attention *from their family members．
A woman named Anna Jarvis loved her mother a lot．When her mother died in May, 1905, Anna decided to do something to show her love for her mother．Anna then wrote to them to establish *a day for mothers．In 1910, one state made the second Sunday in May Mother's Day and a year later almost every state* in the US celebrated* it．
On the morning of Mother's Day, some American children cook breakfast for their mothers．Some other children give their mothers gifts for Mother's Day．Older people give their mothers red carnations*, a kind of flower for mothers, Mother's Day is one of the busiest days of the year for American restaurants．On the special day, family members do not want their mothers to cook dinner．They may go to restaurants with their mothers and of course they will pay for the dinner．
