How's it going? Sorry I haven't emailed for a while, but I had so much to do!

I had told you about my decision to take up a sport. I knew I wasn't fit and I wanted to get some exercise. But that wasn't the only reason that I decided to do a sport. Students who play sports do better at school. 1.                    Exercise also helps learning and memory (记忆).

 2.                 First, I tried soccer. I had played a bit of soccer before and I thought it wouldn't be too bad. I knew I couldn't nm for very long without feeling tired. On the first day, I was able to nm for the first ten minutes, but then I was so tired that I couldn't even kick the ball!

Then, I tried volleyball. 3.               I was able to run for the first twenty minutes and I wasn't the slowest runner in the team! After a few weeks .I could run faster and longer. I was doing better and feeling better. 4.            Maybe I'm not a team sport person after all!

Finally, I tried kung fu (功夫). It's a great sport that exercises the body and the mind. You learn to follow instructions carefully and do what you are asked to do. In almost every big university（大学）in the United States, football is a favourite sport. American football is different. Players sometimes kick the ball, but they also throw the ball and run with it. They try to take it to the other end of the field. They have four chances（机会）to move the ball ten yards（码）. They can carry it or they can throw it. If they move the ball ten yards, they can try to move it another ten yards. If they move it to the end of the field, they receive six points.

It is difficult to move the ball. Eleven men on the other team try to stop the man with the ball. If he does not move the ball ten yards, his team kicks the ball the other team.

Each university wants its own team to win. Many thousands of people come to watch. They all shout for their favourite team.

Young men and women come on the field to help the people shout more. They dance and jump while they shout.

Each team plays ten or eleven games each season.

The season begins in September and ends in November. If a team is very good, it may play another game after the season ends. The best teams play again on January 1, the first day of the New Year. Many people go to see these games and many others watch them on TV.

Martin had just finished high school. He would go to college at the far end of the city. He didn’t want to live there, and he didn’t want to take the bus either. So his father agreed to buy him a car.

His father spent all his summer teaching him how to drive, from the ABC to the XYZ. Thinking of the great feeling of driving a new car, Martin learned very quickly, and received his driver’s license just before his eighteenth birthday.

The second day, all the family, and their dog, went to a car shop. Martin spent almost all the morning going from one car to another. Finally he saw a red Blue Bird.
