    Once I was on a weekend hike with my class．The teacher told us to be careful．I fell just as she finished talking and what was worse，my glasses were missing．I can’t see without my glasses! I thought it could be the end of my trip．But everyone said I shouldn’t be so sad and they would help me．Some classmates helped me when I walked and others told me about the wonderful birds and trees they were seeing．Sometimes when you lose something，you might find friends in its place．Later，someone noticed something in my shirt pocket and asked what it was．I touched my pocket．“It must be my glasses!” Everyone laughed．

    Many years ago，I found a photo of my grandmother when she was young．She was very beautiful．“This must belong to my mother，” I thought．We were having a class about family trees and I thought grandmother's photo would be good for the lesson．So I took it to school and showed my friends．Unluckily，I couldn't find it after that class．Later，when I got home from school，I told my mother about the photo．She was very sad and cried for it was the only picture she had of her mother．I felt sad．I still do．

    Everyone always said my grandfather must have been very rich．They were always trying to guess where he kept his money because he always said his money would be lost if he put it in the banks．But no one ever found it．After he died，his relatives（亲戚）got the many different things that belonged to him．When they asked me what I wanted，I asked if I could have his books．My other relatives laughed at me--Why would anyone want old books? Later，I found grandfather’s money--inside his books!

    A hare was very popular with the other animals who all said they were her friends．But one day she heard the hounds（猎犬）getting close and hoped to escape them by the aid of her many friends． So，she went to the horse，and asked him to carry her away from the hounds on his back．But he refused，because he had important work to do for his master． He felt sure that all her other friends would come to help her．

    She then came to the bull，and hoped that he would repel the hounds with his horns （角）．The bull replied，"I am very sorry，but I have an appointment with a lady；but I feel sure that our friend the goat will do what you want．" The goat，however，feared that his back might do her some harm if he took her upon it．The sheep，he felt sure，was the proper friend to ask for help．

    So she went to the sheep and told him the situation．The sheep replied，"Another time，my dear friend． I do not like to have anything to do with it，as hounds have been known to eat sheep as well as hares．"

    The hare then went，as a last hope，to the calf （小牛），who regretted that he was unable to help her，as he did not like to take the responsibility （责任） upon himself，as so many older persons than himself had refused the task．By this time the hounds were quite near，and the hare took to her heels and luckily escaped．
