Mattie and Millie were two very old sisters. They lived at number 5 in our road. Mattie, 87, worked in the garden because she enjoyed that kind of work. Millie, 85, cleaned the house and cooked the meals.

One day Millie heard a sudden cry from the garden. Then her sister called out:“Millie, Millie! Come quickly!” Millie ran outside, “Why? What happened to you?” She asked. Mattie was on the ground, under an old apple tree.

“I think I've broken my leg,” Mattie said:“I can't get up. Help me, please.”

  “How did it happen?”

“Well, I wanted to get those big apples from the top of the tree. So I climbed up. It was easy enough, but then a branch broke, and I came down very easily. We'll have to get the doctor.”

“You didn't think, did you?” Millie said. “That apple tree is very old. It's been there for forty or fifty years. The branches aren't strong enough… Don't climb it again.”

Millie helped her sister into the house. Then she telephoned the doctor.

“You haven't broken your leg,” the doctor said. “Stay in bed for a few days, I think it will be all right then.”

“She mustn't climb that tree again,” Millie said.
