Be open to new ideas.  Have you ever thought that people could live  on the moon? Perhaps you'll
discover Earth Ⅱ someday. Don't look  down on new ideas.  Everyone's ideas are important. You
should welcome them, because new ideas make life better for everyone.
Use the Internet carefully.  The Internet can be very useful for your  studies. Some websites (网站)
on the Internet aren't for kids, so  make sure to visit the Web pages that are good for you. You can

What are good manners?

We say that a person has good manners if he or she is kind and helpful to others. Everyone likes a person with good manners but no one likes a person with bad manners. But what are good manners? Here are some examples.

He never laughs at people when they are in trouble. He tries to help them. He is always kind, either to people or animals. When people are waiting for a bus, or in a post office, he takes his turn. He does not push to the front of the queue. On the bus, he gives his seat to an older person or a lady who is standing. He stands up when speaking to a lady or an older person, and he does not sit down until the other person is seated. He does not talk too much himself. He does not talk loudly or laugh loudly in public. When eating, he doesn't speak with his mouth full of food.

However, different countries have different manners. Before going into a house in some Asian countries, it is good manners to take off you shoes. In European countries this is not done. A guest in a Chinese house never finishes a drink. He leaves a little to show that he has had enough. In England, a guest always finishes a drink to show that he has enjoyed it.

People all over the world agree that being well-mannered really means being kind and helping others. If you remember this, you will not go very far wrong.

It's easy to make you embarrassed (窘迫的)-You may run into the wrong classroom and everyone looks
at you. Or you have a piece of cabbage in your teeth! What do the American and British teens find
embarrassing and how do they react to it?
One big embarrassing thing for them is answering personal questions. If you ask "How old are you?" or
"How much money do you make?", they'll get angry. It's polite to stop asking. If you meet someone for the
first time, talk about something not personal, such as your neighborhood or school. British people love to talk
about weather.
British and American teens feel embarrassed if they still use their parents' money to buy clothes or have
to ask their parents before making a decision, because others will laugh at them.
In some situations, if you look bad in public, don't worry. A child may forget and call his or her teacher
"mom" in class. A good laugh is a good way out of it! Sometimes you find that you don't have enough money
when you pay at the supermarket. Just put some things back quickly. If you explain too much, you'll attract
(吸引) a lot of attention!
Honesty always works best. If you forget the name of a person, or don't know how to clean the toilet after
using it at your friend's home, just ask them about it.
