Aftershock , a movie about the 1976 Tangshan earthquake has made a new Chinese box office record since its opening on July 22, 2010 .

The movie’s director , Feng Xiaogang , one of Chine’s most successful directors , was pleased with the box office result .

Aftershock is about a mother’s 30-year life journey . She had to give up her daughter during the quake . She thought her daughter was lost in the earthquake . But 32 years later , they met by accident . The mother had to think how to get along with the daughter . The Tangshan earthquake which took place on July 28 , 1976 , made more than 240,000dead .

A survey on Sina.com shows nearly half of the 20,015 people surveyed said the movie was “very good and successful ”. About one quarter of those surveyed said the performers’ great acting moved them the most . In a popular movie theater in central Beijing , most of the people were moved to tears , as their weeping could be heard from time to time throughout the movie .
