Studying abroad is an amazing experience, especially when you come to Australia as an overseas high school student. You can have a lot of fun here, especially on holidays.![]()
There are many festivals in Australia. The most important one is obviously Christmas. Each year, the summer holidays at every high school last about two months from the beginning of December to February, which covers the Christmas time. Since it is a long holiday, most overseas students love to fly back to their home countries to spend the time with their families and friends, but a few students still stay in Australia during the holiday to get part-time jobs. It is quite easy to find a part-time job at Christmas. Students often take part in another major social activity. They go to the beach to have fun in the sunshine. The summer in Australia is from December to February, so going to the beach in December is very popular among Australians.
Easter in March is another important holiday in the year. It actually combines(使结合) “Good Friday” and “Easter Monday”. Almost every shop closes on Good Friday. And people usually go to see Easter Show.
The Chinese New year is not a public holiday in Australia, so every Chinese student still has to go to school to study and do his or her normal duties.

He had done his homework, paid attention to lectures, and taken notes, but nothing was familiar. “Everyone is so much cleverer than I am,” he thought. It was a strange feeling, as he was always a good student in high school.
He felt even more puzzled a few days later. He got lost on his way to his favorite cinema. What’s worse, he began having trouble finding the right words when speaking. He asked, “What’s for dinner, Mom?” after he had just eaten. Poor Andrew, he was only 15!
His parents were worried and took Andrew to see a doctor. A brain scan(扫描) made it clear: Andrew had a malignant brain tumor(恶性脑肿瘤) . It was pressing on the part of the brain that makes new memory. He should be operated on as soon as possible. Andrew was scared!
Doctors removed the tumor, but Andrew’s memory was still poor. He was told he would probably never go back to school. Andrew was eager to enter a university, but it seemed that his dream wouldn’t come true.
“Even though they told me this, I knew I wanted to go back to school,” Andrew said. “I wanted to get my memory back.”
Andrew began by auditing(旁听) an English class at a nearby school. In class, he took notes carefully and read his notes several times a day, then typed them again and again. There are so many reasons for remembering our favorite teachers forever and thanking them. Here are some good teachers
Mr Livingstone :Ms Livingstone had the same last name as me and I often spoke with her since we worked in the same building. When my students got her for 7th grade, I was very concerned .I thought her class would be very boring. But my students loved her class and I never forgot her.
Jack:I went to Mrs Mcquillan’s class completely by accident at the start of my 10th grade year, and I am so lucky that I did. She brought the literature(文学) to life right before my eyes. She loves her job so much. If every teacher could do what she does in the classroom, every class would be wonderful. I was so happy to meet a teacher who cared so much. That’s the reason why I want to be an English teacher. And if I could be half as helpful as she is, I would be happy.
Mr Smith: Mrs McClure always went above and beyond for the children in her classroom. Thanks to Mrs McClure, my son loves school. He even got to eat a special lunch with her recently and it made his week ! One family will forever be grateful for the wonderful experience she provided for our son during his first year in school.
Mary: “How are you feeling today? ”Mr Funk asks every day. “Thirsty for knowledge!” all the students answer immediately .Mr Funk is an amazing history teacher and an amazing all-round person; he never lets class get boring .When mistakes are made ,he corrects them so that you actually understand what you did wrong.
