Long ago there lived in Greece a learned man. He was so well-known for his good knowledge that lots of people from all over the country came to learn from him. The great man taught his students with great patience （耐心）

　　One day a student asked him, “My dear teacher, didn't you say you yourself have much more questions about things than we do? But I think we students have far more than you “

　　With a smile on his face, the teacher drew two circles, one as large as a big cake, the other smaller. Then he said, “of course, I've learned much more．But it's wrong to think that a teacher has fewer questions than his students. now look at these two circles. The inside of the bigger one is my knowledge of things, and inside of the smaller one is yours. out of the circles is what is still unknown to us all. Since mine is larger, I have to use the longer line to draw the bigger circle． That means I have more opportunities（机会）to face what is unknown. And that's why l myself have more questions than you do. The more you learn, the more questions you have. You'll never learn enough, you know “

One of my father’s favourite sayings as I was growing up was “Try it!” I couldn’t       I didn’t like everything. Whatever it might be, until after I       it. Over the years I’ve come to     I ought to thank him. My      job was just one I decided to try for a few years until I made up my mind to do as a career(职业).      I believed I would work for several years, get married, stay at home, and raise a family, so I        think the job I took mattered that much. I didn’t like the work that would take much of my time. I tried not to make any mistakes. I began to control some basic skills and I was given the chance to move up through the company into different       . I       each new chance with the thought. “ Well, I’ll try it. If I don’t like it , I can always go back to my       position(位置). ” But I was with the same company for the past 28 years. And I’ve   every career change I’ve made. One day, a young woman said something that hurt her best friend and the friend n  1   met her after that．She regretted it, and wanted to take the w  2   back．

 She asked an older woman for a  3  ．The woman said, "You need to do two things． Tonight, take your best feather pillows （羽毛枕头）and before the sun rises, you must put a single feather on the doorstep of each house in town． After you finish, come back to me and I’ll tell you the s  4   one．"

At night, the younger woman went from doorstep to doorstep and didn’t m  5   a single doorstep．After she finished, she went back and said, "I’ve put a feather on the doorstep of each home．"

Now the older woman said, "Go back and find the feathers and put them back into your pillows．Then everything will be as it was b  6  ．"

The younger woman cried, "You know that’s i  7   ! The wind blew away each feather as soon as I put them on the doorsteps! "

That’s true ," said the older woman． "Each of your words is like a feather in the wind．You can never return them to your mouth, so remember: c  8   your words well, and use warm words when you say something．"
