Jess really felt very happy. When he arrived at his seat in the classroom that morning, he found an
invitation (请柬) on his desk. It was from several of his classmates asking him to join them on a camping trip.
This was the first time he was asked to join in an out-of-school activity. Why were they asking him now?
Nobody seemed to like him. In fact, he had been so lonely that he drowned his feeling with food. As a result,
he had put on a lot of weight, and this gave the kids something more to make fun of him.
Cindy, who was standing near Jess when he read the invitation, went out quickly to tell the others that the
trick (恶作剧) had worked. Everyone was pleased that Jess thought that was true. But there was no camping
trip. The whole thing was made up.
At first, Cindy thought it was fun. But later, when Jess told her that he was going to buy a sleeping bag
with his savings (积蓄), Cindy had a second idea. She knew that Jess's family had little money, and she hated

1   My mother is a doctor.  She is too busy with her work to spend the weekends with me.
It seems that she doesn't care about me at all.  I feel lonely.
2   I am too shy to speak in front of my classmates.  They always laugh loudly when I am
answering teachers' questions.  I am so frustrated.
3   I am not allowed to hang out with friends at all.  My parents want me to study all the time
at home.  I feel unhappy.
4   I think I work harder than others, but I get bad grades.  Am I too stupid?
5   A senior high school student asks me to give him 100 yuan every week without telling
others.  I am frightened, so I don't want to go to school now.
把以上五个人的问题与下面的建议A-E搭配。
A. Nobody is born stupid.  Maybe you haven't got right ways of study yet.  Ask the teachers or
classmates for help if you have questions.
B. Your classmates may not laugh at you.  If you don't like their laughter, you should talk to them about
your feelings.  They might understand you.  You had better be more easygoing and be their friends, so
you won't feel frustrated if your friends laugh.
C. Don't be afraid. You should tell your parents or teachers at once. Don't go out alone.
D. Let your parents know your friends are nice.  You learn a lot from them when you have fun with them. You study with them outside, too.
E. Tell your mother you need her company (陪伴) sometimes. Also you should do somehousework with
your mother so that she can finish her work quickly. Try to understand your mother, too.

Happiness is for everyone. You don’t need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on. Why? Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads at their free time.
In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you; when you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health; when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you; when you do something wrong, people around you will help you to correct it. And when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice a bit of them, you can see that happiness is always around you.
Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that can’t be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chances to challenge(向…挑战)yourself. So you can not always say you are poor and you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving(旋转)door. When it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.
