The poor are very wonderful people. One evening we went out and picked up four people from the street. One of them was in a most  15  condition, and I told the others: You look after the other three. I take care of this one who looked  16 . So I did for her all that my love can do. I put her in bed, and there was such a beautiful  17  on her face. She took hold of my   __18__as she said “thank you” and she died. I asked myself what I would say if I was in her  19. And my answer was very simple. I would have tried to draw a little 20  to myself. Carly Williams decided to become a TV reporter when she was in Grade 6. “ One day, we went out into forest and did some reporting about forest fires,” Carly said. “ Ever since then, I have loved the job and I have been trying to do it as much as I can.”

Now 15, Carly reports for the news program at her school. And she has interviewed many famous people including some famous basketball players and TV stars.

“Carly is a great student and I am sure she will achieve her dream in the future,” said one of Carly’s teachers.

Last month the happiest thing for Carly was that she got a call from Teen Kids News in New York. She sent them some films she made by herself for the school news program. Teen Kids News is on over 200 TV stations around the USA. The producer of the show said he liked Carly’s films and asked if Carly would make a film for them.

“ All I could say was, yes, yes, yes!” Carly said. “ I didn’t even think for a second.”

Carly spent five days learning something about Teen Kids News in New York. She also visited a person who was a reporter for Teen Kids News and got some advice.

Her first task was to interview an artist in New York. Carly said she worried about working with a new team because she wanted to impress the producer. Although under great pressure, she did a wonderful job.

“Carly has gotten to do some pretty amazing things,” said Carly’s mother. “For her to get that taste of it was pretty cool.”

This Thursday, across the US, kids are skipping school(缺课)and going to work with their parents. They’ll be making copies, sending faxes(传真)and sweeping floors. This is because April 28 is Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day all over the US. This holiday shows kids what it means to be a grown-up in the working world.
I still remember when this day started, I was very happy. Not only did I have the chance to miss school, but I also got to sit in my dad’s taxi all day long and we would go to a restaurant for lunch.
But after only 20 minutes of driving around the city. I was very bored. I couldn’t read my book in the car as I would get carsick(晕车)and my dad didn’t like to turn on the radio. I got hot and uncomfortable. people wouldn’t get into his taxi because they thought he already had a passenger: me—so nothing happened. It seemed years before we went out for lunch. I actually started to miss school.
While the point of the day is to give kids a chance to experience real-life jobs and give them an idea of the possibilities(可能性) for their futures, I got something completely different from the day. I learned to appreciate(重视) school. Where else do you get to play with your friends, do science experiments, read great books and write stories all in one day?
Just as you’ll have to learn to love your job later in life, learn to love school now. If you don’t already, try spending the day at work with your dad.
