For one week in April, millions of people chose not to watch TV for “TV Turnoff Week”. TV Turnoff
Week started in 1995 and is more popular every year. Many people discover that you can have a good time

     But some research from Britain says that may not be a problem. The London Business School watched
people carefully during TV adverts and they discovered that people don't watch a lot of the ads. The
researchers discovered that the most common activity during the adverts was talking to other people in the
room. Many other people started reading or doing housework or changed channels during adverts. They
only really watched them about 25 percent of the time.

     When John and Victoria Fails arrived in New York from London for a one-year stay, they did not bring
many things with them. They had planned either to live in a furnished apartment (家具齐全的公寓) or to buy
used furniture (家具). But they soon learned that the renting (出租) of home furnishings (beds, tables, dishes,
and so on) has become one of America's fastest growing business.

    Tokyo may be one of those places that you love and hate at the same time. In Tokyo, there are always too
many people in the places where I want to go. There are also too many cars. Tokyo drivers often spend a long
time in the busy street, just like drivers in London, Paris and New York.

trains, you may see everybody reading a newspaper. But in Tokyo trains, everybody seems to be sleepy, no
matter whether his journey is long or short. If you stand outside the station for five minutes, there will be three
fire engines(消防车) going past you. They are on the way to one of the fires that Tokyo has every day. Tokyo
has so many surprises that none of them can really surprise me now.
