A new term has begun. Teachers are   1  about the fact that new students are not easy to deal with(对付). They like to bring telephones（手机） and MP3 players to school. What is   2  , some students even use telephones to do out-of-class matters in class, or sometimes just for fun. Some otherstudents listen to MP3 players when they are having a lesson that they are not interested in.
Are these new students really that  3 ? “Yes.” says Delaney Kirk, a professor at Drake University.   4  she says it’s not their fault(过错).   5 , the teachers should be blamed(责备). Mrs Kirk first began thinking about students’ manners six years ago. “I had my first class in which students were sleeping or talking to each other. These students need to know more about manners. It’s time to help them develop some good   7  . They shouldn’t waste time doing nothing when they are young. Prana, our beautiful dog whose name means ‘breath of life’, isn’t with us any more. But she brought such joy and love that we still miss her.
There are so many wonderful stories about the love in this dog, but my favorite is this one.
It was an autumn day in Minnesota, but the weather didn’t know the difference between autumn and winter. Unexpectedly, we were hit with a big snow fall for which no one was prepared.
We have two apple trees in our backyard. Prana loved apples. When she went outside, she’d take hold of an apple, put it far back in her mouth, and sneak into the house to save for eating later. The apples had been on the ground and were often dirty so I wasn’t always happy that Prana had brought them into the house. Feeling my displeasure, she would turn her head so I wouldn’t see her hidden treasure.
On the day that it snowed too early in the season, Prana went outside and I watched her from the window. I noticed that she was madly digging holes and brought the apples to the surface so they could be seen above the snow. I wondered why she was doing this. She seemed to be completely busy with some kind of important task to dig up as many apples as possible during her yard time.
When I called her back into the house, she had her usual one apple in her mouth. About five minutes later, I looked outside. The yard was completely covered with birds. Prana had dug up all those apples for her bird friends to eat. She knew that they wouldn’t have stored enough food to live through such an early winter.

In 1993, I went to the best high school in Wroclaw. It was a special program with a lot of English classes. I owe (感激) a lot to the people I met there, both students and teachers. My first
two years in high school were very important for my English. My English teacher, Mr. Janusz Laskosz, gave me a lot of good advice, especially on pronunciation and vocabulary. My talented (多才多艺的) friends, Wojtek and Michael Ryszard, who are my partners now, were both fantastic English learners. What’s more, every time I heard them speak, they seemed to have a bigger vocabulary. I wanted to be as good as them, so I studied harder. And my English improved. Wojtek and Michal also introduced me to SuperMemo, which has been very important in my life. And, of course, I could discuss the English language with them, which was a great thing.
