April Fools' Day is a custom of playing jokes and tricks on each other in some European countries and North America on April 1st. It is said to have begun in France in the middle of the 16th century.
Before that time, one calendar was used throughout Europe. Under this calendar, people celebrated April 1st as the beginning of a new year.
