题目列表(包括答案和解析)
I’m beginning to think whether my grandmother was right when she complains,as she frequently does, that children nowadays aren’t as well-behavioured as they used to be.She recounts in detail how she used to be told to respect her elders and betters. She was taught to speak when she was spoken to and when she went out on her own,she was reminded to say please and thank you.Children in her days, she continues, were expected to be seen and not heard, but these days you are lucky if you ever hear parents telling their children to mind her manners.?
If you give her the chance she then takes out of her writing desk the old photograph album which she keeps there, and which she never tires of displaying.Of course when you look at pictures of her parents you feel sure that, with a father as strict looking as that, you too would have been “seen and not heard”.Beside him sits his wife, with their children around her;Granny and her elder brothers. It always occurs to me that perhaps those long, stiff, black clothes were so burdensome (heavy) to a little girl that she hadn’t enough breath left to be talkative, let alone mischievous (淘气的).It must have been a dull and lonely life too,for she stayed mainly at home during her childhood, while her brothers were sent to school from an early age.?
However,my childhood was much freer than Granny’s.I went to school with my brother.I played football with him and his friends. We all spoke a common language, and we got up to the same mischief.I would have died if I had to stay indoors, wearing tight, stiff clothes.

To be concerned with proper child development is to be concerned about making sure that children have daily access to both mothers’ and fathers’ parenting.
If Heather is being raised by two mommies and Brandon is being raised by Daddy and his new husband-roommate, Heather and Brandon might have two adults in their lives, but they are being deprived of the benefits found in the unique influences found in a mother and father’s differing parenting styles. Much of the value mothers and fathers bring to their children is due to the fact that mothers and fathers are different. And by cooperating together and complementing each other in their differences, they provide these good things that same-sex caregivers cannot. The important value of these gender-based differences in healthy child-development will be explored here.
The fathering difference is explained by fathering scholar Dr. Kyle Pruett of Yale Medical School in his book Fatherneed: Why Father Care is as Essential as Mother Care for Your Child. Pruett says dads matter simply because “fathers do not mother.” A father, as a male parent, brings unique contributions to the job of parenting that a mother cannot.
Likewise, a mother, as a female parent, uniquely impacts the life and development of her child, as Dr. Brenda Hunter explains in her book, The Power of Mother Love: Transforming Both Mother and Child. Erik Erikson explained that father love and mother love are qualitatively different kinds of love. Fathers love more dangerously because their love is more expectant than a mother’s love.
Dr. Pruett also explains that fathers have a clear style of communication with children. Babuism by 8 weeks, can tell the difference between a male or female communicating with them. Stanford psychologist Eleanor Maccoby, in her book The Two Sexes, explains mothers and fathers respond differently to babies. Mothers are more likely to provide warm care for a envying baby. Whether they realize it or not, children are learning at earliest age that men and women are different and have different ways of dealing with life, other adults and their children.
58.This passage is mainly about___________.
A.three experts’ differen t arguments
B.the introductions to the three famous books
C.mothers and fathers’ different parenting styles
D.the value of parents’ parenting in healthy child-development
59.Which can replace the underlined phrase “deprived of” in Para. 2?
A.provided B.kept C.taken away D.turned down
60.Which of the following about Dr. Pruett is TRUE?
A.He thinks fathers make more contribution to the job of parenting than mothers.
B.He thinks fathers have better communication with children than mothers.
C.He thinks same – set caregivers cannot bring children good things.
D.He thinks children need father care as well as mother card.

US President Barack Obama has visited residents in areas of New York that still have no electricity 17 days after the deadly super-storm Sandy.
Mr Obama took a helicopter tour of Breezy Point, a neighborhood in Queens where about 100 homes were razed in a fire during the storm. He also met residents at an emergency response centre in Staten Island. More than 100 people were killed in the US as a result of Sandy, 43 of them in New York. The US president also met privately with Damien and Glenda Moore, whose two sons were swept away in the storm. "Obviously I expressed to them as a father, as a parent, my heartbreak over what they went through," he said. He said the family wanted to thank the New York City police officer, Lt Kevin Gallagher, who stayed with them until their children’s bodies were found. One man whose home in Staten Island was destroyed by Sandy was thankful for Mr Obama’s visit, but thought he should have come earlier."If he could do something to make this process with the government a little faster and easier on us, that would be a great thing," said Anthony Gatti, who said he had queued all day every day to speak with emergency officials. Mr Obama visited parts of New Jersey in the immediate after the storm, avoiding New York City so as not to prevent recovery efforts. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who joined Mr Obama on Thursday, said he would request $30bn (?19bn) in federal aid in order to rebuild. That price tag included the construction of a power grid meant to help utilities find and fix outages, as well as an upgrade to New York City’s fuel supply capacity. Fuel shortages after the storm led to lengthy queues and petrol rationing.
56. How did the man whose home was destroyed in the storm feel when visited?
A. Excited but nervous.
B. Scared but appreciated.
C. Thankful but sorrowful.
D. Appreciated but regretful.
57. What can we learn from the passage?
A. New York would request ?30bn to rebuild.
B. New York suffered a lot from super storm Sandy.
C. Mr. Obama visited New York Government.
D. Mr. Obama showed heart break in New York Government.
58. What is the main idea of this passage?
A. Obama toured Sandy-hit New York.
