She is among 23 children of the Pittsburgh area from Haihua Youth Orchestra1, which is made up of local youth from 7 to 14. Most of them are American-born Chinese. The orchestra is one of four American children’s groups that will represent the United States at the festival, which starts on Saturday and continues through July 31. The festival will feature about 30 performance groups from around the world as well as 20 from China. There will be at least 1,000 performers. The event features eight days of music, dance and theater. It is held every three years and is hosted by China Welfare Institute,Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Song Qingling Foundation. After the festival, Amy and her group will travel to Beijing where they will spend two days living with and performing with students of No.101 Middle School. They will also visit the Central Conservatory of Music. Finally, they will visit famous sights, including the Great Wall, Tian’anmen Square and the Forbidden City, and tour CCTV.
