题目列表(包括答案和解析)
Losing a baby tooth can be fun for a kid. You can put it under your pillow and look forward to finding some money there in the morning. And then you can watch your new permanent(永恒的) tooth grow in its place.
But if a permanent tooth falls out, that’s a problem. There isn’t another one under the gum(齿龈)that can replace it. Unfortunately, this happens to some older people. And if permanent teeth fall out-or need to be pulled-an older person might need dentures.
Dentures, known as false teeth, are a set of replacement teeth for any teeth that are missing. There are partial dentures, which take the place of only a few teeth and prevent the others from changing position. If all the teeth are gone, the person would need complete dentures, which replace every tooth in the mouth.
Dentures can cause pains at first and take some time to get adjusted to. They also need special care. They should be brushed daily with a special denture brush and cleanser and soaked in denture solution when not in the mouth.
Dentures are important for older folks because, without teeth, it’s hard to smile, talk, and eat properly. But it can be a little weird if you see someone take out his or her dentures. It can also be strange to see someone, like a grandparent, without dentures in because he or she won’t have any teeth. Try not to make fun of the person because this could cause hurt feelings.
People usually lose their permanent teeth due to periodontal disease, or gum disease, which is caused by bacteria that attacks the gums. Diseased gums aren’t strong and healthy, so teeth can get loose and fall out. Older people often have many cavities(洞)that have been filled over the years, and these fillings can weaken over time, leading to more tooth decay(腐烂).
If one of your baby teeth falls out, he or she .
A.should have a false tooth fixed in its place
B.have to put it under your pillow at once
C.will gain a permanent tooth in future
D.can exchange it for some money
A person wearing dentures .
A.should brush them with a special denture brush every few days
B.will take a very long time to adjust himself or herself to them
C.will experience unpleasant feelings at the beginning of fixing them
D.should use denture solution to soak them in his or her mouth
Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A.Partial dentures can prevent the remaining teeth from changing position.
B.Old people will find it hard to smile, talk, and eat properly without teeth.
C.A person’s teeth will possibly get loose if diseases strike his gums.

In Yemen, you always see one type of vehicle on the road: the water truck. They travel mountain roads and cross deserts to bring Yemanis a good more valuable than oil.It is one that only the rich can afford, with the supply regularly being cut off.Others must rely on scarce rain or charity to fight thirst.
Experts say Yemen is gong to be the first country in the world to run out of water. The capital, Sanaa, will run out of drinking water as early as 2025, says a report by the World Bank.
Hannan, an 18 – year – old from Lashej, said that only the rich could prepare for cuts in supply.“In a good week we’ll have a water supply all week but then the following week there will be water only for a day or two,” she said.
She and her husband, a factory worker, pay 3000 riyals (99yuan) for a week’s supply of water from a touring water truck when the taps run dry. With an income of only 20,000 riyals (660 yuan) a month, this means the family often spend half their money on water.
“There are a lot of people who can’t afford it and they have to rely on their neighbors to help,” she said.
The average person in Yemen survives on one –fifth of what the World Health Organization considers to be enough water.
In Taiz, in the south, tap water is available only once every 45days.In the mountainous Malhan district in the north, women and children climb a 1,500 – m mountain to collect water from a spring, often in the small hours to avoid long queues.
Yemen is located in South – west Asia, bordering the Arabian and the Red seas.Yemeni people have lived on scarce water supplies for thousands of years but that problem has been made serious by conflict in the area, the fast – growing population and the use of water to grow a drug called qat. With one of the world’s highest rates of population growth – 3.46 percent, Yemen is the poorest Arab country.
The government is considering desalinating (淡化) seawater, but this would be expensive and it may now be too late. The only other solution is to cut down on farming, but that means importing even more food.

You know how wonderful you are, and you know that others know how wonderful you are, but what do you do when admiration crosses over the line into jealousy(嫉妒)? For most teens there will come a day when you realize that one of your friends is jealous and that this jealousy is hurting your friendship. When this happens it can seem like there is nothing that you can do, but the good news is that there is. Don’t let jealousy spoil your relationships. Handle it head on and you might be back to normal much sooner than you think.
It can be hard to walk up to a friend and ask them what the problem is, but if you want to save your friendship you’ll have to do just that. Don’t approach them and ask why they are jealous of you (unless of course you want to appear totally proud), just take some time alone with them and let them know that you’ve been feeling like there’s been something coming between you. If they refuse to respond, then use the opportunity to explain how you have been feeling. Chances are that something you say will strike a nerve and your friend will open up as well.
When you figure out what is annoying your friend, ask him or her what (s)he thinks would make the situation better. If, for example, (s)he says that (s)he feels like (s)he doesn’t get to spend any time with you because of your being off with your new friends from the swim team, then maybe you could invite her along the next time or block off one day a week for just the two of you. Remember, though, that whatever solution you decide on should be a compromise(和解). Don’t limit your own talents or opportunities simply because your friend is unhappy. Try instead to include him or her in your new life and see how that works out.
Even the best of friendships can be tinged(略带着) with jealousy. This destructive emotion is rarely productive and can turn best friends into worst enemies. Before taking extreme action, chat with your jealous friend to see if the two of you can work out a compromise. If you can’t, be prepared to know exactly how far you will go to keep your friend and how far you won’t.
68. According to the author, the jealousy emotion is________.
A. normal B. productive C. destructive D. extreme
69. The underlined “it” in the first paragraph refers to________.
A. friendship B. relationship C. admiration D. jealousy
70. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A. There’s always a solution to solve the problem of jealousy.
B. Jealousy can turn best friends into worst enemies.
C. You may lose a friend to keep your own gifts, chances or self development.
D. You should go a long way with your friend to work out a solution
71. The purpose of the passage is________.
A. to explain what causes jealousy B. to offer some advice on making friends
C. to introduce ways to cope with a jealous friend D. to explain how destructive the jealous emotion is
