It was a cold winter. The day my husband fell to his death, it started to snow, just  31 any November day. His   32 , when I found it, was lightly covered with snow. I received a letter from a grandmother who told me about her four-year-old granddaughter Skylar. Ever since Skylar 31 of Disneyland from TV, she 32 her nickels and dimes (零钱) in a piggy bank in 33  of visiting there someday. Her parents 34 her with a trip when she was four, however, and didn't even 35 her to use her own money!

Having written a book on rock music and a book on jazz music, and now writing a book __31__ the classical music of the 20^th century, I felt the __32__ to put somewhere the music that does not quite fit __33__ of these kinds of music. I also felt that I needed to research the beginning of the popular music in Western Europe and the USA in order to __34__ understand the change of the jazz and rock music. I also felt that ethnic music has become so __35__ that one should research the development from Western European and USA music. This book aims at __36__ all these gaps (差异). I did my best to give it a systematic feeling, although it is clear that musicians from such different parts of the world had very __37__ in common. Only after the joining together of the 1907s can we __38__ of a worldwide history of popular music. This book is about the __39__ of that formation (形成).

It was not very difficult to decide how to __40__ jazz music from pop music. It was much more __41__ to decide how to separate rock music __42__ the rest of popular music, because rock music has taken in just about everything. Pieces of this book were firstly written for my 2003 books on rock music. __43__ that happened after the 1960s will be in the book on rock music. June is always a sad time for Senior Three students. After taking the big test, they leave to  31    their dreams in different ways. It’s hard time when students    32  to say goodbye to carefree high school days and close friends.
People always say that teenage friendships are the most precious. Kids are too young to understand real friendship while adults    33  to relate it to fame and wealth.
Things are    34  with high school best friends. We share each other’s secret. We discuss news from all walks of life and begin to    35  our values. We support each other on the journey to the biggest    36   in our lives. We also share success and failure. The seeds of friendship become deeply rooted.
Many of us don’t realize this ­­­   37   we enter society. One of my friends, Yang Ping,    38  how strong the bond with high school friends could be. “ It was my high school friend who helped me    get    39  the darkest days in my life,” said the 27-year-old girl.
In 2001 Yang lost her job in Beijing. Yang’s best friend was staying in a college dormitory and took her in. Each night the two girls squeezed into a narrow single bed, chatting and crying. “I’ll never forget her care and encouragement, which supported me out of the darkness,” said Yang.
I    40   remember my last days in Senior 3. At the time, I    41   a 20-page message with my best friend, both of us hoping to keep the friendship    42   forever.
But we didn’t realize we were already deep in each other’s    43   . During the past ten years, whenever I’ve needed help or wanted to pour out my    44  , she has always been there at the other end of a telephone line.
It is true that friends come and go. But never forget the ones who have been there for you. Take a closer look at those now around you, they could be the most precious     45  you discover in your entire life.
