A possible version: My Impressions of the Beijing Olympic Games I am deeply impressed by the success of the Beijing Olympic Games. To compete in the Olympic Games becomes my dream because participating in a competition gives me a great feeling of accomplishment--I’m an Olympian. I will always remember that Zhou Kai outshined his teammates to set records that he could never have imagined. Nor will I forget that Liu Zige smashed the world record on her way to winning Olympic gold in the women’s 200m butterfly. And I’m still excited to think of those days when Phelps rewrote quite a few Guinness world records. These accomplishments are breathtaking. However, in reality they require an enormous amount of strength and fitness as well as determination. No pains, no gains, as a proverb says. Only when we fear no hardship can we achieve them and become real Olympians. 听力材料第一节: M: I’ll have these shoes. Please tell me how much I pay you. W: They are $40 a pair and three pairs make a total of $120. But today we offer a 10% discount. W: Hi, Tom! I’ve caught you at last. I dialed your phone at your home many times, but nobody answered. M: Oh, I’m sorry I forgot to tell you, Linda. I moved to a new flat last week. And I changed my phone number. Here is my new number. Call me if you have anything to tell me. W: I’m going to the supermarket. What would you like me to buy for you? M: Well, please buy some oranges and apples for me while you are there. W: That’s OK. W: These two bamboo baskets are both very beautiful. I really can’t decide which to buy. M: In my opinion, the bigger one is better. It can hold more things. W: But the smaller one is more beautiful, I think. M: I’d like to make two reservations on Flight 651 for June 8th. W: I’m sorry, we’ve booked up the 8th. But we still have a few seats available on the 9th. 查看更多

People do not analyse every problem they meet. Sometimes they try to remember a solution from the last time they had a 36 problem. They often accept the opinion or ideas of other people. Other times they begin to act without 37  ; they try to find a solution by trial and error. However, when all of these methods 38  , the person with a problem has to start analyzing . There are six 39 in analysing a problem.

40 ,  the person must recognize that there is a problem. For example, Sam’s bicycle is broken, and he cannot ride it to class as he usually does. Sam must 41 that there is a problem with his bicycle.

Next the person must 42 the problem. Before Sam can repair his bicycle, he must know why it does not work. For example, he must 43 the parts that are wrong.

Now the person must look for 44 that will make the problem clearer and lead to 45 solutions. For example, suppose Sam 46 that his bike does not work because there is something wrong with the brakes. 47   , he can look in his bicycle repair book and read about brakes, talk to his friends at the bike shop, or look at his brakes carefully.

After 48 the problem, the person should have several suggestions for a possible solution. Take Sam as an example 49   , his suggestions might be: tighten or loosen the brakes; buy new brakes and change the old ones.

In the end, one 50 seems to be the solution to the problem. Sometimes the 51 idea comes quite 52 because the thinker suddenly sees something in a 53 way. Sam, for example, suddenly sees there is a piece of chewing gum stuck to a brake. He immediately hits on the solution to his problem: he must 54 the brake.

Finally the solution is 55   . Sam does it and finds his bicycle works perfectly. In short he has solved the problem.

MEXICO CITY: A jetliner from the beach resort of Cancun was briefly hijacked as it landed in Mexico City on Wednesday. The hijackers released all passengers shortly before federal police stormed the plane, and the crew emerged unharmed moments later.

Police, who did not fire a single shot, led as many as eight handcuffed men away from the airplane, which was isolated at the end of a runway in an area designed for emergencies. The hijackers’ motive was unclear, though Mexican news media initially identified them as Bolivians demanding to speak with Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

US, French and Mexican citizens were among the 112 passengers and crew on Aeromexico Flight 576, according to a US official who had been briefed on the situation. The official was not authorized to discuss the case and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Mexico’s transportation and communications secretary, Juan Molinar, said there was no bomb on the airplane, although some passengers said one of the hijackers held a package that resembled an explosive device, and a bomb squad (拆弹小组) was later seen near the airplane.

He did not immediately identify the hijackers or speculate on their motive.

“Various people who participated in the act have been detained and we are investigating,” Molinar said.

The attorney general’s office said it was opening an investigation into terrorism and kidnapping but did not specify how many people could be charged.

Mexican news media initially reported the hijackers were Bolivian, but Bolivia’s ambassador to Mexico, Jorge Mancilla, said Mexican authorities had no evidence that was the case. Mancilla said sources told him they could be Colombian or Venezuelan. Several passengers told reporters they did not notice a non-Mexican accent.

Passenger Rocio Garcia told the Televisa network that the pilot made an announcement after landing in Mexico City that the airplane was being hijacked. Passengers said the hijackers never communicated with them directly.

“These were scary moments,” she said.

She said she saw one of the hijackers whom she described as a well-dressed, older man.

“He looked fine, like a normal passenger,” she said.

Passenger Daniel Hernandez said he saw a hijacker carrying a Bible.

From the first paragraph we can conclude that _________.

A. the hijackers just wanted to play a trick on the police

B. the hijackers didn’t prepare for their action

C. the hijackers surrendered before the police fired

D. the hijackers lost their way at the last moment

From what Juan Molinar said we can learn that _________.

A. police were still trying to identify a possible bomb

B. passengers succeeded in stopping the explosion

C. a frightening bomb was found later on the airplane

D. several Mexicans were involved in the hijacking

What may be the first step taken when the hijacked plane landed?

A. They gave a sudden attack at the hijackers.

B. They kept the plane away from other planes.

C. They asked the crew to control the hijackers.

D. They abandoned the plane at the end of the runway.

The hijackers, as some passengers described, _________.

A. were good at bargaining with the police

B. were all well-dressed American old men

C. all came from Colombia or Venezuela

D. stayed calm and appeared noble, educated

Have you ever been in a meeting while someone was making a speech and realized suddenly that your mind was a million miles away? You probably felt sorry and made up your mind to pay attention and never have daydreaming again. Most of us from earlier school days have been told that daydreaming is a waste of time.

“ On the contrary,” says L.Giambra, an expert in psychology(心理学), “ daydreaming is quite necessary. Without it, the mind couldn’t get done all the thinking it has to do during a normal day… .

You can’t possibly do all your thinking with a conscious(有意识的) mind. Instead, your unconscious mind is working out problems all the time. Daydreaming then may be one way that the unconscious states of minds have silent dialogues.”

Early experts in psychology paid no attention to the importance of daydreams or even considered them harmful. At one time daydreaming was thought to be a cause of some mental illness. They did not have a better understanding of daydreams until the late 1980s. Eric Klinger, a professor of psychology, is the writer of the book Daydreaming. Klinger says, “we know now that daydreaming is one of the main ways that we organize our lives, learn from our experiences, and plan for our futures… Daydreams really are a window on the things we fear and the things we long for in life.”

Daydreams are usually very simple and direct, quite unlike sleep dreams which may be hard to understand. It’s easier to gain a deep understanding of your life by paying close attention to your daydreams than by trying to examine your sleep dreams carefully. Daydreams help you recognize the difficult situations in your life and find out a possible way of handling them.

Daydreams cannot be predicted; they move off in unexpected directions which may be creative and full of useful ideas. For many famous artists and scientists, daydreams were and are a main source of creative energy.

So the next time you catch yourself daydreaming, don’t stop. Just pay attention to your dream. It may be more important than you think.

1.In what way are daydreams different from sleep dreams?

A.Daydreams help to develop an unconscious mind.

B.Daydreams are not so easy for us to control and direct.

C.Daydreams help us to handle more difficult situations

2.Professor Eric Klinger believes that _______.

A.our fears and longings in life are shown in our daydreams

B.we may study our experiences just through our daydreams

C.daydreaming is one of the important ways that we recognize our lives

D.we should be able to tell our futures by having daydreams

3.The writer of the article thinks that ______.

A.daydreaming is more helpful than sleep dreams

B.many artists and scientists are famous because they have daydreams

C.professor Eric Klinger has a better idea than L. Giambra

D.daydreaming with an unconscious mind will do good to health

4.Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the passage?

A.Daydreaming was once regarded as a cause of mental illness.

Learning how to be patient with people can be challenging for some. After all, not everybody is gifted with great patience. The good news is that it is something that can be learned and eventually perfected.
When the customer before you takes ages to pay for his or her groceries, you tap your foot impatiently and cough every now and then; but no, the customer is still not hurrying up. It takes all of your power not to make a scene.  However, if you picture that customer to be someone you like (say your partner), then you will find yourself not getting too annoyed, right? So the next time you find yourself losing patience with somebody, simply visualize that person to be someone you really, really like and your patience will extend its life.
The second step on how to be patient with people involves whistling. When you whistle a happy tune, you instantly cheer up. You can sing your favorite song if you can't whistle - it really doesn't make a difference. What's important here is that you have done something that makes you feel good. And when you feel good, you are more likely to be patient with the people around you.
Next, when you're stressed, it's almost impossible to learn how to be patient with people. If you know you're going to be in a situation where your patience will be tested, meditate or get yourself a massage(按摩) first. Don't dive into anything unless you've managed to clear yourself off negative emotions. Remember: the more stressed you are, the faster you'll lose your temper. The less stress you have in your life, the longer your patience.
Learning how to patient with people is not a necessity in life. You've seen people who manage to survive day to day with incredibly bad tempers after all. But do you really want to live like they do? If, however, you want a life that has better quality than that, then just follow these steps and embrace the fact that patience is a virtue.
