题目列表(包括答案和解析)

The other day my aunt paid me a visit. She was overjoyed. “I got the highest mark in the mid-term examination!” She said. Don’t be surprised! My aunt is indeed a student, exactly, a college student at the age of 45.
“Compared with the late 70s,” she says, “now college students have many doors.” I was shocked when she first told me how she had had no choice in her major. Look at us today! So many doors are open to us! I believe there have never been such abundant opportunities for self-development as we have today. And my aunt told me that we should reach our goals by grasping all these opportunities.
The first door is the opportunity to study different subjects that interest us. My aunt was happy to study management, but she could also attend lectures on ancient Chinese poetry and on Shakespearean drama. As for myself, I am an English major, but I may also go to lectures on history.
The second door is the door to the outside world. Learning goes beyond classrooms and national boundaries. I have many fellow international classmates, and I am applying to an exchange program with a university abroad. As for my aunt, she is planning to get an MBA degree in the U.K.
The third door is the door to life-long learning. Many of my aunt’s contemporaries say she’s amazingly up-to-date for a middle-aged woman. She simply responds, “Age doesn’t matter. What matters is your attitude. I don’t think I’m too old to learn.” Yes, she is right. Since the government removed the age limit for college admissions, there are already some untraditional students, sitting with us in the same classrooms. Like them, my aunt is old but young in spirit with incredible energy and determination.
The doors open to us also pose challenges. For instance, we are faced with the challenge of a balanced learning, the challenge of preserving our fine tradition while learning from the West, and the challenge of learning continuously while carrying heavy responsibilities to our work and family. So, each door is a test of our courage, ability and judgment, but with the support of my teachers, parents, friends and my aunt, I believe I can meet the challenge head on.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

Being considered a leader in our society is indeed of high praise.Leadership means power, commands, respect and, most important, encourages achievement.Unlike vitamin C, leadership skills can't be easily swallowed down. They must be carefully cultivated.

Different from popular belief, most good leaders are made, not born. They learn their skills in their everyday lives. But which do they develop? How do they(and how can you)get others to follow?

Always give credit. Many leaders note that the most efficient way to get a good performance from others is to treat them like heroes.Giving public credit to someone who has earned it is the best leadership technique in the world. It is also an act of generosity(慷慨)that's never forgotten.

Giving credit is more effective than even the most constructive criticism(批评), which often hurts rather than helps.Kenneth Blanchard, the author of The One-Minute Manager, agrees."Catch people doing something right!" he says, "Then tell everyone about it."

Take informed risks."The best leaders know that taking a risk is not a thoughtless exercise," says management adviser Marilyn Machlowitz, "Sky divers don't go up in an airplane without checking the parachutes(降落伞)beforehand."

Because the idea of risk also carries with it the possibility of failure, many of us usually wait for others to take charge. But if you want to be a leader, you must learn to fail, and not die a thousand deaths.Pick yourself up and start all over again.

Encourage enthusiasm(热情)."When people understand the importance of work, they lend their mental strengths," says Lee Ducat. But when they get excited about the work, all their energy gets poured into the job. That's a great force! Is this the best way to create excitement? Be enthusiastic yourself. You will be followed by everyone.

According to body language expert Robert Phippsthe way people sleep at night actually determines a lot about the type of personality they have.Phipps has identified four sleeping positions that affect personality.

Phipps found that worriersthose who stress the mosttend to sleep in the fetal(胎儿的)position. He found that this is the most common bedtime positionwith nearly 58 percent of people sleeping on their side with knees up and head down. The more we curl up(蜷曲)the more comfort we are seekingaccording to Phipps.

The second most common position is the log.Sleeping with a straight bodywith arms at each sideas if they are standing guard at Buckingham Palaceindicates stubbornnessand these people(the 28 percent who sleep this way)often wake up stiffer than when they went to sleep.

“The longer you sleep like thisthe more rigid your thinking is and you can become inflexiblewhich means you make things harder for yourself”according to Phipps.

Yearner(向往型)sleepers are next on the list.About 25 percent of people sleep in this style—on their side with arms stretched out in frontlooking as if they are either chasing a dream or perhaps being chased themselves.Yearners are typically their own worst criticsalways expecting the best resultsexplained Phipps. These people often wake up refreshed and eager to face the challenges of the day ahead.

Perhaps the most peculiar(奇怪的)of sleep styles is the freefaller position. This sleep style makes up 17 percent of the population. They sleep face down with arms stretched out. These peopleaccording to Phippsfeel like they have little control over their life. Not only is this the strangest of sleep stylesbut also the least comfortableand people may wake up feeling tired and have no energy.

In conclusionPhipps has only one more thing to add“A good night's sleep sets you up for the following day and our sleeping positions can determine how we feel when we wake.”

Both art and architecture have a history of ages. All forms and ways of expressing beauty have been explored. In the case of architecture, many buildings that were designed in the past have proven to be beautiful and served their purposes. We could save millions of dollars by copying designs of architecture of buildings from the past.Besides, some people find modern architecture ugly.So why should we pay a lot for designing new buildings? The same goes for modern art, both paintings and statues. Many art objects created in the past are now covered by dust in storerooms. They are enough to decorate all public places. There is no need to create more art, and as with modern architecture, many people find new art difficult to understand or appreciate.

Considering these facts, why are architects and artists asked to create new art works? And why are we interested in creating new ones, instead of using or copying what was made in the past? The answers to these questions have to do with the function of art in society today.

First of all, the function of art is to decorate.By placing art works in parks and hanging paintings or drawings on the walls, we make our living environment more beautiful. When our eyes move across an empty wall, they will for a few moments rest on a painting or drawing hung there.it makes us feel good.Sometimes, paintings are not beautiful at first glance. But watching and thinking about them for a while or repeated viewing will help us learn to appreciate them.

Another function of art is enriching real life, as art is part of everyday life.Art helps us learn to think creatively. In art, things are not always what they seem to be.Art objects in park are sometimes funny.Very often we can hardly tell what they are.We need such creative moments. It helps us to balance our minds. With art like that all around us, our life is more interesting.

Finally, art is often seen as a way to instruct the audience.Statues of heroes from the past remind us of our history.Paintings and other art objects can also help us to realize which goals we should set for ourselves and inspire us in our everyday work.

Because ideas about society change and very period of time has its own taste, there is always a need for new art.We can still appreciate art works made in the past for their beauty, but they are often too valuable to be placed in public places.Besides, they also often need special protection.

The rising costs of health care have become a problem for many countries in the world. To deal with this problem, it is recommended that a big part of the government's health budget be used for health education and disease prevention instead of treatment. Actually, many kinds of diseases are preventable in many ways and preventing a disease is usually much cheaper than treating it. For example, people could avoid catching a cold if they dressed warmly when the weather starts getting cold. But many people get sick because they fail to do so, and have to spend money seeing a doctor
Daily habits like eating more healthy food would have kept millions of families from becoming bankrupt if the patients had taken measures for early prevention. For instance, keeping a balanced diet, such as not consuming too much animal fat and insuring a steady intake of vegetables and fruits, seems to be quite important.
One very effective and costless way of prevention is regular exercise, which is necessary for a healthy mind and body. Regular exercise, such as running, walking, and playing sports is a good way to make people feel better or reduce stress
In addition, health education plays a key role in improving people's health. By giving people more information about health, countries could help people understand the importance of disease prevention and ways to achieve it. For example, knowing one's family medical history is an effective way to help keep healthy. Information about health problems among close relatives will make them aware of what they should do to prevent certain diseases through lifestyle changes, which will work before it is too late
However, stressing disease prevention does not mean medical treatment is unimportant. After all, prevention and treatment are just two different means toward the same effect. In conclusion, we could save money on health care and treat patients more successfully if our country spends more money on health prevention and education
