On American highways you often see big buses of the same size, shape and colour, with the picture of a running dog painted on each side. They are the well-known Greyhound buses, Greyhound being the name of the company which owns these long-distance buses.

When the summer holidays came near, I asked my American friends what was the best way to travel within the United States. They recommended(建议) Greyhound and explained to me the reason.

To fly, of course, is the fastest way, but one can't see anything during a flight except the blue sky and white clouds. So it is not very interesting to one who wants to see the country. Besides, airfare is very expensive.

To travel by train is comfortable, because passengers can walk and buy food and drinks on a train. They can also see cities and the countryside through the windows. But not many passenger trains are running. As a result, they don't leave or arrive at a place every day and don't go to many cities.

To travel by Greyhound, my friends told me, is easy, cheap and convenient, though not so fast as travelling by plane or so comfortable as by train. You can find Greyhound buses almost in every city, big or small. Moreover, they leave or arrive at a city several times a day, and that makes travel arrangement (安排) easy.

I took their advice. Finally, I got to the east coast with the interesting experience of travelling across the United States by bus.

8. What does the word "convenient" mean?

A. 高速 B. 舒适 C. 安全 D. 方便

9. What makes the writer think to travel by Greyhound is the best way?

A. It is as fast as by air.

B. It is as comfortable as by train.

C. It is safe.

D. it makes the travel plan easy.

10. Which of the following is the best title of this passage?

A. Something Important in Travelling.

D. By plane, by train or by bus?
