Basketball 

James Naismith invented the game of  basketball in 1891. He was a physical education teacher. He wanted to create a team sport that could be played indoors during the winter.

People immediately enjoyed basketball's excitement and fast action. In just a few years, both men and women were playing basketball at schools and sports centers throughout North America. American soldiers took the game to Europe during World War One.

In the 25th, 26th and 27th Olympic Games the Chinese players were successful in getting a lot of gold medals. All the Chinese people are glad that the 29th Olympic Games will be held in Beijing. At that time we can watch the Olympic Games in our own country.
