71. From the last sentence of the passage, we can learn ______.

 C. the man didn’t smoke before seeing the doctor

 D. the man began to learn to smoke before seeing the doctor

E

The last five minutes

This is really a very fast game, the fastest I have seen so far this year. Both sides are fighting for the ball all the time. The crowd is loving every minute of it. They are shouting at the top of their voices.

Willis has the ball now. This is only his third game for Scotland, but he’s playing so well that it won’t be his last, I’m quite sure.

Willis passes the ball to Cotton. Cotton kicks it over the heads of the waiting Frenchmen, towards the goalmouth(球门). But he’s too far away, Dupond picks it up easily, and throws it to Patou, out on the left.

France and Scotland still have one goal each, and there are only two minutes left of the game. But in that time, anything can happen. Patou kicks the ball across to Crozat. It’s a beautiful kick, but Steven jumps and just stops the ball with side of his head. But Meunier is there, he passes to Crozat, and Crozat, without waiting a second, puts the ball into the back of the goal. It takes everybody by surprise. I’ve never seen a goal like it.

67. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?

A. The survey was conducted by a consulting company.

B. Mercer Human Resource Consulting surveyed 144 cities.

C. Helsinki scored 118.5 points.

D. Montreal and Vancouver scored the same points.

D

Is there anything more important than health? I don’t think so. “Health is the greatest wealth,” wise people say. You can’t be good at your studies or work well when you are ill.

If you have a headache, toothache, backache, earache or bad pain in the stomach, if you complain of a bad cough, if you run a high temperature and have a bad cold, or if you suffer from high or low blood pressure, I think you should go to the doctor.

The doctor will examine your throat, feel your pulse(脉搏), test your blood pressure, take your tem-perature, sound your heart and lungs, test your eyes, check your teeth or have your chest X-rayed. After that he will advise some treatment, or some medicine. The only thing you have to do is to follow his advice.

Speaking about doctor’s advice, I can’t help telling you a funny story.

An old gentleman came to see the doctor. The man was very ill. He told the doctor about his weakness, memory loss and serious problems with his heart and lungs. The doctor examined him and said there was no medicine for his disease.

He told his patient to go to a quiet place for a month and have a good rest. He also advised him to eat a lot of meat, drink two glasses of red wine every day and take long walks. In other words, the doctor advised him to follow the rule: “Eat at pleasure, drink with measure and enjoy life as it is.” The doctor also said that if the man wanted to be well again, he shouldn’t smoke more than one cigarette a day.

A month later the gentleman came into the doctor’s office. He looked cheerful and happy. He thanked the doctor and said that he had never felt a healthier man.

“But you know, doctor,” he said, “it’s not easy to begin smoking at my age.”

OTTAWA - Canada’s western city of Calgary is the world’s best city when it comes to healthy living, local press reported.

According to an international survey by Mercer Human Resource Consulting, a London-based consulting firm, Calgary was put at the top of a list of 144 cities. It scored 121 points, just above Honolulu’s score of 120. Helsinki(赫尔辛基,芬兰首都) and Ottawa followed at 119.5 and 118.5 respectively(分别).

Three other Canadian cities came in the top 20. Montreal and Vancouver tied for ninth and Toronto came in 18th.

The scores are based on air pollution levels, availability and quality of hospitals and medical supplies, as well as the efficiency(效率) of waste removal and sewage(污物) systems.

In America, the lowest scoring city was Atlanta, which was ranked 76th. Athens was the lowest scoring city in Western Europe, ranking 120th because of its air pollution. London was ranked 59th.
