JSC Boggs is an artist who makes money. To be exact,he draws money. In the United States he draws dollars,in Britain pounds and in France francs. Each are almost perfect reproductions, apart from the fact that he writes "Bank of Boggs" or another humorous message on them.

When Boggs goes shopping or for a meal,he offers "Boggs dollars" in the payment for what he wants. He also offers real money. It is up to the people selling the goods to take whichever they prefer.

When a shopkeeper or a restaurant owner takes a "Boggs dollar",he or she gives a receipt in return for the things bought.Boggs then sells the receipt at face value to art collectors. This is how he makes actual money for the times when people will not accept his drawings.

The collector uses the receipt to find the person holding the actual "Boggs dollar" and the two talk over what they think would be a fair price. This gives the shop or restaurant owner the chance to make another profit on the goods he or she sold to Boggs. It means Boggs actually gets paid for buying things. And it means that the collector has a unique work of art---each "Boggs dollar" is separately drawn.

Artists like to make us think. What Boggs wants us to think about is the nature of value and money. What is money really worth? Is value of money the same as personal value? Once "Boggs dollars " have been given away by the artist, they often continuew to circulate and grow on value A "Boggs one dollar bill" may have bought the artist a cup of coffee in New York. Now it may be worth a car or an expensive meal.It all depends on that value a person chooses to give it.

What should you think about when you try to find your career? You are probably better at some school subjects than others. These may show strengths that you can use in your work.A boy who is good at mathematics can use that in engineering career.A girl who spells well and likes English may be good at office work.So it is important to know the subjects you do well in at school. On the other hand, you may not have any specially strong or weak subjects but your records show a general satisfactory standard.Although not all subjects can be used directly in a job, they may have indirect value.

Your school may have taught you skills, such as typing or technical drawing, which you can use in your work. You may be good at mental work or cookery and look for a job where you can improve these skills.

If you have had a part - time job on Saturday or in the summer, think what you gained from it.If nothing else, you may have learned how to get to work on time, to follow instructions and to get on with older workers. You may have learned to give correct change in a shop, for example.Just as important, you may become interested in a particular industry or career you see from the inside in a part - time job.

Facing your weak points is also part of knowing yourself. You may be all thumbs when you handle tools; perhaps you are a poor speller or cannot add up a column of figures. It is bitter to face any weaknesses than to pretend they do not exist.Your school record, for instance, may not be too good, yet it is an important part of your background. You should not feel sorry about it but instead recognize that you will have a chance of a fresh start at work.

The first paragraph of the passage is mainly about ________.

A.the indirect value of school work

B.the importance of being good at all subjects

C.knowing one's strong or weak subjects at school

A.a good way to find out his weak points

B.one of the best ways of earning extra money

C.of great use for his work in the future

D.a waste of time he could have spent on study

If a student's school record is not good, according to the passage, he________ .

A.may do well in his future work

B.won't be able to find a suitable job

C.may be a complete failure in the future

D.will regret not having worked harder at school

B.developing one's abilities useful in school

Methods of training animals have changed greatly in recent years. Zoo keepers have always had problems getting the animals to leave their cages in order for the cages to be cleaned, and also training them to move indoors when appropriate. Another problem was that many of the large animals became listless and bored. In the last twenty years, scientists have done research on dolphins and whales, training them to obey commands. The scientists found they could get animals to obey by rewarding them with food and affection when they responded correctly.?

Proper training allows the animals to receive the care they need. It was very difficult to get untrained animals, especially the larger ones, to stay still when they needed medical attention. Now they can be trained, on command, to remain still and even to allow blood samples to be taken and shots administered. All this is accomplished through positive reinforcement, without the use of any force. Affection training, as this process is called, has been used with great success on a wide variety of zoo animals. Animal behavior experts have taught zoo keepers to train bears, tigers, monkeys, and many other species to behave in a way that provides for better animal-keeper interaction. This training also keeps the animals from becoming bored and inactive.?

Although some people proclaim(谴责) that this training is inhumance and cruel to animals, results have shown that captive(猎获的)animals who previously were not doing well flourish under the new training procedures.?

The word “listless” means _______.

A. countless B. obedient

C. inactive      D. mysterious?

Which of the following is valid conclusion based on this passage?

A. It is safe to pet any animal. ?

B. Many animals respond favorably to rewards and affection.?

C. Animals in the wild can be trained.?

D. Animals should not be kept in zoos.?

The writer's purpose is to _______.

A. persuade people not to feed animals in the zoo?

B. show how easy it is to train animals?

C. explain method of training animals through rewards?

D. criticize zoo keepers?

Which of the following is an opinion??

A. Zoo keepers had problems in getting animals to leave their cages.?

B. Training is cruel to animals.?

C. Animals obey commands if they are trained to do so.?

D. Many animals can be trained, on commands, to remain still.

I’m a pig, and my son is a rabbit. I have snakes for daughters, and my wife, believe it or not, is a dragon! Do I live in a zoo? No, of course not! I am talking about Chinese zodiac signs. Depending on the year of your birth, each person has an animal for a sign. That’s why I am a pig and my wife is a dragon. If you, like me, were born in the year of the pig, then you are brave, thoughtful and loyal. The year of the pig is filled with good fortune.

Now let’s take a closer look at this interesting animal.

Pigs were first raised by man about 9,000 years ago, and are still a very common farm animal in many parts of the world. We don’t just use pigs for their meat — almost every part of the animal is used. The hair is used for artists’ brushes. The fat is used to make floor wax, rubber and plastics.

Pigs have also been important in the world of entertainment. In 1995 the film ‘Babe’ starred a loveable talking pig as its main character. The film won an Oscar and was nominated for 6 more. In England you can even go to watch pig racing. A farmer, Rob Shepherd, has been raising money for charity by holding pig races on his farm. The events have been very successful. People don’t just want to eat pigs, it seems!

Pigs also play an important role in the English language. For example, if someone says that he will travel to the sun one day, you can say “pigs might fly!” to him. Hungry? Well then, you can “pig out” and eat lots of food. And what if someone rescues you? Well, you can say that they “saved your bacon”.
