     An English traveler spent a few weeks in Sweden (瑞典). When he was about to return home he
found that he had only enough money left to get a ticket back to England. He decided to get home
without eating. So he bought a ticket with that little money and went on board.
     He closed his ears to the sound of the lunch bell, and when dinnertime came, he refused (拒绝)
to go down to the dinner-room.
     The following day he did not get up until breakfast was over. At lunchtime, too, he kept out of the

        A friend of mine whose name was Martin Brown was so forgetful that he sometimes forgot what he was
talking about in the middle of a sentence . His wife had to always remind him about his appointments (约会), his
classes or even his meals! Since Martin was a professor at a well-known university , his forgetfulness often
