John has a pet dog named Sunlight. He loves him very much. He ever told others that Sunlight was one of his family members.

One midnight, John’s house was on fire suddenly. John was sleeping and didn’t know what was happening. At that time, Sunlight noticed the fire and woke up John. John called the police. Soon the fire was put out by the police.

Now John often says to others, “ The dog is really my good friend. In the thick smoke and big fire, he could have run out of the house first, but he didn’t. No matter how dangerous it is, he first thinks of his owner.”

Today more and more dogs are wandering ( 流浪 ) in the street. Many people don’t want to keep their dogs because they move to another place. Even some people say that they can’t stand the dogs’ dirtiness. Animals are one part of our society. Maybe our pets will give us a hand like Sunlight someday.

1.We knew Sunlight is John’s son from the passage.

2.The police put out the fire that night.

3.Sunlight ran away because he was afraid of the fire.

4.Some people don’t want to keep dogs because they move to another place.

“Fire! Fire!” What terrible words to hear when one wakes up in a strange house in the middle of the night! It was a large, old, wooden house and my room was on the top floor. I jumped out of bed, opened the door and stepped outside the house. There was full of thick smoke.

I began to run, but as I was still only half-awake, instead of going towards the stairs I went in the opposite direction. The smoke grew thicker and I could see fire all around. The floor became hot under my bare (赤裸的)feet. I found an open door and ran into a room to get to the window. But before I could reach it, one of my feet caught in something soft and I fell down. The thing I had fallen over felt like a bundle (捆) of clothes, and I picked it up to protect my face from the smoke and heat. Just then the floor gave way(垮掉)under me and I crashed (撞击)to the floor below with pieces of burning wood all around me.

I saw a doorway in fire, then I put the bundle over my face and ran. My feet burned me terrible, but I got through. As I reached the cold air outside, my bundle of clothes gave a thin cry, I nearly dropped it in my surprise. Then I was in a crowd gathered in the street. A woman in a night-dress and a borrowed man’s coat screamed (尖叫) as she saw me and came running madly.

We all know the dangers of fires. It's good and necessary for a family to learn how to prepare for a fireand here are some suggestions.

Put a smoke alarm in the house. Smoke from a fire causes the alarm to go off. The alarm makes a loud sound. The sound tells everyone to leave the house at once.

Make escape plans. We should know all the ways out of the house. If there is a fireeveryone follows the plan to get out. Part of the plan is to check all the windows to make sure they can be opened easily.

Buy fire extinguishers(灭火器)in the house. Everyone in the family should know how to use them. Practice for a fire. We do fire practice because we teach children about fire safety. Everyone in the family should know the following fire rules

Don't open a hot door! The fire can grow more quickly if you open the door.

Stay close to the floor! Smoke can be more dangerous than fire. The best air is near the floor because smoke rises.

What will you do if your hair or clothes star to burn? First. stop! Don't run! The fire burns faster because of more air. Drop! Fall to the floor. Then roll! Turning over and over will make the fire go out. Put a blanket around you to keep air away from the fire that may still be on you.
