When we meet friends, we greet them by saying “hi” or shaking hands. But in some countries, people greet each other by kissing cheeks.
In a cheek kiss, both people lean forward. They lightly touch cheek to cheek or lip (嘴唇) to cheek. They also might shake hands or hug each other.
In Europe, cheek kissing is common. It is done between a man and woman, a parent and child, two women or two men. People kiss on both cheeks once or more. The French, for example, kiss twice, once on each cheek. The Dutch kiss three times.

Sometimes people may air-cheek-kiss. Sound strange? It means they don’t touch each other’s cheeks while kissing. They blow a kiss without touching cheeks or just kiss into the air. Ladies wearing lipstick (唇膏) do this kind of kiss.
Not all people kiss on the cheeks. Eskimos (爱斯基摩人) “kiss” with their noses. They gently rub the tips of their noses together. This is called an Eskimo kiss.
