My name is David and I was born in the United States. My life looked bright and was filled with hopes. My parents got married in 1976, and I was born the next year.

As I grew into a man, I often asked my father for advice and support. There were many things about his character that I admired（钦佩）, but I often thought that my father’s ideas were from the past and outdated.

I did well as a student and was the first person in my family to graduate from university. I went on to be a university professor and writer, and most people would think I have had a very successful life. But I know that much of my success is due to the lessons that my father gave me.

When I was a teenager growing up in France, I wanted to leave school and have my own life. The only way I could 　46　 this was to work in the local paper factory in my town, or get married.
