题目列表(包括答案和解析)

阅读下面的短文,并完成短文后的任务。

Draw a giraffe in your mind. How did you draw your giraffe? Does it have a long neck? Does it have long legs? Is it really tall? When people think of giraffes, they think of their long necks. A long neck and four long legs make the giraffe the tallest land animal on earth. A giraffe is 1.8m tall when it is born, and some giraffes get up to 6m tall when they are all grown up.
But did you know that giraffes also have long tongues? Have you seen the tongue of a giraffe before? A giraffe has a very long tongue which can hold and wrap (包) around objects. The tongue is designed for feeding, but it can be used in many different ways. For example, a giraffe can close its nose with its long tongue completely to keep out sand and dust. Also, a giraffe’s tongue is long enough to clean its owner’s ears as well!
The tongue is black in colour to protect it from getting sunburnt (晒伤). It is nearly 56cm long. Giraffe only eat plants, and a full grown giraffe can eat 33kg of leaves a day. When giraffes look for some tall trees to eat, they sometimes fight with elephants for food. Giraffes use their tongue to eat leaves from some tall trees. The giraffe’s tongue is a helpful tool for reaching leaves and breaking off branches.

The widespread number of food scandals(丑闻)in  China is making many people pause before they put their chopsticks in their mouths. They are wondering if the food they are eating is clean, healthy and nutritious(营养) or does it contain(包含) something harmful that will cause disease?
Most of the food we eat today is processed food(加工食品).That means the foods we buy in stores and supermarkets, especially packaged foods, are prepared in factories.Chemicals are added to the foods in these factories to  make them look better, taste better and last longer on the shelf. The chemicals are supposed to be harmless and there are laws that regulate(控制) which chemicals can and cannot be used.Unfortunately, some producers do not obey the laws.

Why did he do it? Why did he break the law and endanger people’s  health? The answer is simple:he wanted to make more money. It was a moral failing, and this is at the heart of the food scandals in China.Too many people focus on making money and not on the effects their actions can have on others.

Many students feel it is difficult to remember new words when they begin to study English. Now I will give you some advice.
Do not waste time in learning the word list. It is not a good way to remember new words. The best way to learn new words is through listening. You can find radio programmes or TV programmes. And listen to them carefully. When you listen to the conversations, you will learn the pronunciation easily. Of course, it is not enough; you have to remember their spellings.
Some people find that they can learn the names of everyday objects such as box, bottle, cup, desk and so on, in the following way. They write the names of things on paper, and then they read the words on the paper. Try this and see if this way works for you. If it does not work, then go on to practise listening to the conversations.

Not long ago, the only time you could see a robot was when you were reading a novel or watching a movie such as Star Wars (星球大战) . Today, however, a lot of things in science stories have been science facts. Robots are starting to appear in our everyday lives. These robots have different sizes, shapes, and colors. But they all have the same type of man-made “brain”. Leading the robot revolution (革命)are industrial(企业) robots that work in factories. Industrial(工业) robots can do different kinds of jobs that are often boring and sometimes dangerous. Robots are also coming to American homes, though not as quickly as they are entering factories. These robots aren’t as friendly and bright as those you saw in  Star Wars. But, their makers say, today’s home robots “walk”, sense objects(感知物体) in their way (and sometimes knock into them), and even carry objects (which they sometimes drop). Well, nobody is perfect.
We may laugh at home robot today, but some day they may see and hear better than humans do. We humans can only see certain wavelengths(波长) of light, and hear certain sounds. That’s because the abilities of our eyes and ears are limited. Robots, however, need not have the same limits as we have. Robot may also be equipped with devices that pick up information humans can’t. To understand what their sensing devices(传感器) pick up is a hard job. Remember, man—made brains handle(处理)information, including all kinds of data, as zeroes and ones. Imagine the difficulty in trying to explain to a robot what a football looks like—using only zeroes and ones.

D.They handle information by using zeroes and ones.

Oriole’s Nest
Picky, Picky
Scientists have no idea exactly why birds choose certain objects to build their nests. But scientists know that the main reason birds build nests is to keep their babies safe, warm and healthy.
Baby birds grow faster and are healthier when they are warm. They also learn to fly and leave the nests sooner than birds without warm homes.
What A Yarn (纱)
Yarn is big on an oriole’s shopping list during nest building. Scientists are still trying to work out why so many birds choose white yarn over other colors for nest building.
Scientists think that the white objects remind birds of cotton fluff (绒毛) they find in the wild.
Do It Naturally
Even though birds can help us recycle some of our junk by using it to build nests, they also need to use lots of natural things. Long grass, dried sticks, spider’s silk and mud are some of the natural ingredients that are good for nests, too.
You can make a collection box of things to leave for birds so they can help themselves. Hang a small plastic box with holes on a tree branch. Fill the box freely with nest building goodies. Hang the box on a tree and watch birds climb on board to pick through the junk to find their treasures.
Warning: Don’t let the birds turn into a tasty treat. Keep your bird station away from places where cats hang out.
For The Birds!
Stop! Don’t throw all that garbage out! Give some to the birds. Look and see how your old junk can help beautify and warm a bird’s new home.
【小题1】The baby birds with warm homes are able to _____.
A.choose right objectsB.leave the nests sooner
C.build good nestsD.learn to fly higher
【小题2】 What can people make for birds to build nests?
A.Holes on the tree.B.Food out of the rubbish.
