They’re not for everyone, however.Even summer days are cool and often windy. The water is too cold for swimming. There are no forests, and there are only a few trees and green fields.Instead of fields, there are just rocks and small plants. The hills, too, are just piles of rocks.Sometimes the view looks like pictures of the moon.
But there is beauty in this place. From the beach you can often see all the way to the rocky hills. From the hills you can see far out to other islands and the open ocean. The colors, too, are special.Blue is everywhere. It’s in the sky and in the ocean. It is in the tiny flowers that grow on the hills. In the spring there is also green in the hills. In the summer and fall the hills are more purple.Often the air is soft and gray with clouds and rain.
On these islands you can forget about the rest of the world. The evenings are quiet. The restaurants close early, and there isn’t any nightlife.Visitors stay at a guest house or a Bed and Breakfast. This is the best way to learn about life on the islands. The islanders are often friendly, and they like to talk.
If you want to meet islanders, you can also try the pubs(酒吧)or even the shops.People are in no hurry here. They like to chat about the weather or the fishing. There are also some tourist shops, but not many. They sell the usual tourist things. They also sell some beautiful clothes made of wool from the islands.

Money doesn't grow on trees but sometimes a big family can help make it happen.
For years I wanted a flower garden. I'd spend hours thinking of different things I could plant there. We had five children, Matthew, Marvin, Helen and the twins, Alisa and Alan. I was too busy raising them to grow a garden.
We didn't have much money or time. Often when my children were little, one of them would want something that cost too much. I'd have to say, “Do you see a money tree outside? Money doesn't grow on trees, you know.”
Finally, all the five finished high school and college and were off on their own. I started thinking about having a garden again. I wasn't sure, though. I mean, gardens do cost money, and after all these years I was used to living with very little.
Then, one morning in spring, on Mother's Day, I was working in my kitchen. Suddenly, l heard cars outside. I looked out of the window and saw a new tree planted right in my yard. I knew it was a weeping willow (垂柳), because I saw things blowing around on all of its branches (树枝). Then I put my glasses on and I couldn't believe what I saw. There was a money tree in my yard.
I went outside to look. It was true. There were dollar bills, one hundred of them, taped (绑) all over the tree. I could buy many flowers with one hundred dollars. There was also a note, “I still do something for you. Love, Marvin.” Marvin kept his words, too. He dug up a nice flower bed for me. My other children bought me tools and other things to help me, such as gardening books.
That was three years ago. My garden is now very pretty. It is just the way I wanted it. When I go out to take care of my flowers, I don't seem to miss my children as much as I once did. It feels like they are right there with me.
I live quite far to the north, where winters are long and cold, and summers are much too short. But every year now, when winter begins, I look out of my window and think of the flowers. I'll see next spring in my little garden. I think about what my children did for me, and I get tears (泪) in my eyes every time. I'm still not sure that money grows on trees. But I know love does.

In the sea there are many islands. In its warm waters there are some little ones. We call them coral(珊瑚) islands.
A coral island is very nice to look at. It looks like a ring of land with trees, grass, and flowers on it. One part of the ring is open to the water. There is a little round lake inside the island.
If you look into this lake, you will see beautiful coral. You may think they are flowers.
If you look at a piece of coral, you will see many little holes in it. In each of these holes a very small sea animal has lived. These sea animals make the coral.
They began to build under the water. Year after year, the coral grew higher and higher. At last it grew out of the water.
Then the sea brought to it small trees and something else. After some years, these things changed into earth. Sometimes the wind brought seeds to this earth. Sometimes birds flew over it and brought seeds to the island. The little seeds grew. In a few years there were plants all over the island. In a few more years there were trees growing there.
So you see, these islands were built little by little. The workers were very small. Don’t they teach us a lesson? Can you think what the lesson is?
