Dickens, one of the greatest English writers, was born in one of the smallest towns of England in 1812.
When Dickens was nine years old, the family moved to London, the capital of England. There were several children in the family. Their life was hard, so Dickens could not go to school.
He didn't go to school until his father came out of a prison(监狱). At that time he was already twelve years old. But he did not finish school. Two years later, he began to work. He often went to the library to read books. He read a lot. Then Dickens wrote lots of novels(小说) and stories all his life. An English traveler found himself in Norway with only enough money to buy the ticket for him to go back home.
