After 1876, the young Van Gogh traveled in Britain, Belgium and Holland. Between 1883 and 1886, his paintings developed into characteristic dark landscapes and scenes of country life. In 1886, Van Gogh left Holland forever and traveled to Paris. He lived with his brother. His works became more youthful in Paris.
