In the 21st century classroom, modern technology has made our learning experience more interesting. Also, it’s more interactive(互动的).

Now three kinds of tools in the 21st century classroom---a whiteboard, a computer screen and some audio tools(音频工具) are available. They have made a big difference in how students learn. An interactive whiteboard allows the teacher to show pictures and provide sound as well. A large computer screen has colorful pictures and sound in it. So lots of students’ attention is attracted by what they see and hear. Different kinds of audio tools, such as earphones and microphone, also help to make sure that everyone can hear the teacher. In the past, if a child missed some of what the teacher said, the child may have been too nervous to ask the teacher to repeat it. Now the students are not likely to miss what the teacher says with these audio tools.

The 21st century classroom is able to teach students more than one thing. Just imagine an English lesson is given in a modern classroom like this. How would it be different from a classroom in the past? The answer is simple. The students would learn about not only the subject itself but also how to use the modern machines.

The 21st century classroom can make teaching and learning easier. Now everyone is able to express their opinions or answer questions without having to speak loud. Since everyone can do it, the teacher can easily see who needs more help in other ways.

It’s clear that the 21st century classroom is really making a great difference.

1.Modern technology has made our learning experience more _________ and the technology is also more __________.

2.An interactive whiteboard can provide not only __________but also_________.

3.A computer screen with pictures and sound in it can attract students’_________, and there is less chance of ________ what the teacher says.

4.In a modern classroom, students can learn about both the _________itself and the use of _____________.

5.This passage mainly talks about audio tools like _________ and _________.

The world itself is becoming much smaller by using modern traffic and modern communication. Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago, but it has brought new problems. One of the biggest problems is pollution.
To pollute means to make things unfit or unclean to use. Pollution comes in many ways. We see it, smell it, drink it and even eat it. Pollution is beginning to threaten (威胁) our health, our happiness and our life.
Man has been polluting the earth from the time he first made fire, washed his clothes in the river and threw his waste on the ground. When land was used up or water became dirty, men moved on to another place. At first, the problem was not so serious because there was plenty of clean air, land and water. There weren’t so many people then and their wants fewer. All the dirty things could be absorbed(吸收) by nature and soon covered over. But this is no longer true. The increase of pollution and the development of industry(工业) have changed that. Man is slowly poisoning(毒害)not only his environment but also himself.
Through the use of poison, man has polluted the land, killing the animals. By putting dirty water and chemicals into rivers and lakes we have polluted our drinking water, killing the fish.
Our increasing population is part of the problem. More people, more waste.
Where is this all to end? Are we turning the world into a big rubbish dump(堆存处),or is there any hope that we can get rid of (摆脱,除去) the pollution? Luckily, millions of people have been warned of the danger of pollution. Large numbers of people are now working hard to bring pollution under control.
The earth is our home. We must take care of it. This means keeping the land, air and water clean. And we must take care of the rise in pollution at the same time.

Kelly Christopher, a student at Lutheran High School in California, US, loves oranges. One day last week, she used a pole(竿子) to pick oranges off trees and collect them in baskets. It’s the first time in her 15 years she’s picked fruit from trees.
"This is quite different from buying oranges in the supermarket," said Christopher. "Every time I eat an orange, I’ll remember this experience."
Christopher was one of the 30 student volunteers at Soil Born Farms. She volunteered as part of a project which was set up in 2009 to help homeowners in South Land Park pick oranges and other fruits out of their backyards. Before, the fruit would rot on the ground or get eaten by animals. Now the fruit is donated to those who need it.
"It is good for many people", said Randy Stannard, who works for the project. "The homeowner gets fruit picked and more people can have healthy food."
"Two harvests (收成 ) were organized in 2009 and volunteers picked 3,000 pounds (1,360kg) of fruit", Stannard said. In 2010, the number was 20,000. This year, Soil Born Farms hopes to get 40,000 pounds. They will harvest every weekend from January to April.
Shannon Galloway, Christopher’s science teacher, brought her students into the project this year.
"You’re making use of a resource that might be wasted," she said. "I think it’s meaningful to everyone."
Donato Frazier, 15, always climbs up a ladder(梯子) and gets on the top of the tree.
"Standing on the treetop is pretty cool," Frazier said. "I can see clearly that many baskets are filled up, and even see that many people are eating healthy fruit because of our volunteer work."

阅读下面的短文,并完成短文后的任务。

Draw a giraffe in your mind. How did you draw your giraffe? Does it have a long neck? Does it have long legs? Is it really tall? When people think of giraffes, they think of their long necks. A long neck and four long legs make the giraffe the tallest land animal on earth. A giraffe is 1.8m tall when it is born, and some giraffes get up to 6m tall when they are all grown up.
But did you know that giraffes also have long tongues? Have you seen the tongue of a giraffe before? A giraffe has a very long tongue which can hold and wrap (包) around objects. The tongue is designed for feeding, but it can be used in many different ways. For example, a giraffe can close its nose with its long tongue completely to keep out sand and dust. Also, a giraffe’s tongue is long enough to clean its owner’s ears as well!
The tongue is black in colour to protect it from getting sunburnt (晒伤). It is nearly 56cm long. Giraffe only eat plants, and a full grown giraffe can eat 33kg of leaves a day. When giraffes look for some tall trees to eat, they sometimes fight with elephants for food. Giraffes use their tongue to eat leaves from some tall trees. The giraffe’s tongue is a helpful tool for reaching leaves and breaking off branches.
