　　You may have known several kinds of police, traffic police, and street police．But have you ever heard of energy－saving(节能) policemen?

　　A group of 22 of these new policemen went to work last week in Beijing．They go around the city to see the use of energy in hotels, office buildings, shopping centers and onther public places．One of their aims is to make sure that these sites have set their air conditioning(空调) no cooler than 26℃．

　　They also set up a special phone line so that people can tell them which buildings fail to follow the rule．

　　“If everyone sets their air conditioning at 26℃, Beijing will save 400 million kilowatt－hours of electricity in one summer．That’s one－third of all the usage of the city in the season, ” said a TV advertisement．

　　Other Chinese cities, like Wuhan in Hubei Province and Yangzhou in Jiangsu Province, are going to follow Beijing’s steps in setting up a similar police team．

　　As one of the fastest developing countries, China is using a lot of energy．This has a great effect on the country’s environment and limited energy．

　　From 1986 to 2005, the country experienced 20 warm winters continuously．Numbers show that Chinese cities have to spend billion of yuan solving(解决) environmental problems every year．

　　At the beginning of this month, China made its first action plan to fight pollution．It aims to reduce energy usage by 20％ and increase renewable energy up to 10％ from 7％ by 2010．

　　To introduce the public to a green life, last week Beijing held a show on energy－saving technology and productions．Environment－friendly machines, such as a vending machine that helps colllect used bottles, have attracted lots of attention．

　　“We want to tell people that there are certain ways to protect the environment．Each of us can find effective ways to do it in our daily lives, ” said Liu Qianguang, an environmental engineer in Beijing．

　　I am a professor of sports and exercise so I often deal with nervousness in my research with sports people．Actually, most people experience nervousness at some time or another．

　　If you are feeling anxious, my advice is to first find the cause or causes．Make s list of those things that are making you nervous and work out which ones you can do something about．Focus all of your efforts on managing the causes that you can control．

　　Most people cannot tell the difference between controllable(可控制的)and uncontrollable causes, so things they can’s control become a big reason for nervousness．Dealing with this is very important if people want to keep a healthy mind．

　　Simply try to accept the uncontrollable causes of nervousness．You might be worried about the weather on a big day, an accident or an attack on the train, or perhaps just things that other people are doing at work．The results may be very important but there is still no use worrying because you can’t control any of these things．Accept that you can’t control everything．Once you understand this, it becomes easier not to worry．

　　If a situation, such as swimming, is causing you to be anxious, try to face it as often as possible so that you can get used to it．

　　It can often help to think about yourself doing the thing that makes you nervous－then close your eyes and imagine it going well．Imagine how the flight or job interview is going to happen so that you can get used to it．This will help you understand that the thing you fear most is probably not going to happen．

　　Peking Opera used to sound strange to Dou Yi．The14-year-old Beijinger said whenever she came across Peking Opera on TV, she changed the Channel(频道)．Like most of today's teenagers, Dou loves pop music．

　　But since Dou entered the Xuanwu branch school of Beijing No．15 Middle School, she has been studying Peking Opera in music class every week．

　　Dou and her classmates listen to Peking Opera and learn the basics(基础知识)from professional actors．They also sing along with the operas．

　　"We laugh sometimes because the tunes(声调)are really hard to learn, "said Dou．But she said that now she would watch Peking Opera on TV．

　　"After all, I am no longer a layman, 'she said．

　　Since 2008, schools around the country have been teaching students Peking Opera．It's part of a plan to introduce young people to the country's artistic traditions．Clearly, Dou's school has been taking the job seriously．

　　Yang Ning, 14, is Dou's classmate．She has been studying Peking Opera since she was 8．She is a member of the school's Peking Opera club．

　　Yang said she had learned a lot from Peking Opera．

　　"I learn a lot of history from the operas, " she said．" I've also found out about many ancient poems, since there are so many of them in the operas．"

　　Yang doesn't think everyone can learn to sing Peking Opera well, but she does say that it's helpful for all people to learn about it．

　　"The more you learn about it, the more you understand it．If people do study it, this old art form won't disappear．It would be a great pity if it did! ” she said．
