Dear Editor（编辑）,

　　After I finish my homework, I often go online and chat with my friends. Sometimes I play Internet games. But my parents hate to see me playing games on the computer. Maybe they have heard too much news about how QQ and Internet games harm（伤害）children. Once I went to a net bar（网吧）to play games after school. But after that I told my parents that I was playing basketball at school. I said so because I didn't want to make them unhappy. I feel bad about it. However, I need to rest for a while by playing computer games after studying for a long time. I really want my parents to understand that. Do foreign parents do the same to their children? Please help me.

Dear Li Ping,

　　I think it's not strange for parents to keep their children away from anything bad. Foreign parents will do the same as your parents! They may not let their children watch TV for too long a time, or like your parents, they don't want their children to play computer games.

　　Talk to your parents and be honest（诚实）to them, I think. Tell them what you are doing and why you are doing so to make them understand you. It's never good to do things behind your parents' backs. They aren't fools as you think sometimes! Our parents seem to know what is the best for us. Remember: to be honest is the best way.

　　“Tom? Are you in bed yet?” called Mrs White. There was no answer. Mrs White put down her book and went to her 14-year-old son's room Tome was sitting in front of a bright computer screen(屏幕) on which a colorful dragon(龙) jumped and shouted.

　　“Oh, Tom! You're still playing on that computer. You must stop now, it's half past eleven. If you don't go to bed soon, you'll be very tired tomorrow.” said Mrs White.

　　“But I've nearly beaten the dragon.” said Tom. Mrs White could see the excitement(激动) on her son's face. She sat down beside him.

　　“You are always playing on that computer. You spend more time with this machine than with your family,” she said with a smile. “What's so special(特别的) about it? Show me what it can do!”

　　Tom was very excited. “I think this is a great computer, Mum!” he said happily. “The hardware(硬件) is good. There's so much memory(内存) and it has some wonderful software programmes. This game, Dragonsplayer, is my favourite, but I sometimes borrow games from Danny and other friends. I don't have to worry about any infected(被感染的) disks(磁盘) because I have a virus(病毒) detector(监测器) which can go over any disk and check it for viruses. Let me show you!” Tom began tapping(敲打) keys on the keyboard(键盘). The screen changed in answer to his orders(命令).

　　“Oh, Tom,” laughed Mrs White. “I'm sure it's a wonderful computer, but I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about.”

“Jason, honey? Can you answer the door?”
"I am busy, mom!" Jason shouted back at his mother. He had spent three hours so far working to his point in the game. He couldn’t stop now.
Ding-Dong! Jason’s mother came to the front door.
"Jason, it’s your friend, Todd,” Mum called out. Todd, his best friend, stepped into the room. "Jason! I need a friend for playing basketball." He sounded excited.
Jason said angrily, “No way, Todd. I’m playing a game here.” Todd shook his head, “you can play later, let’s go.” Jason gave his friend a dirty look, and his character in the game almost got killed while he looked away. “I almost died because of you!” Todd looked at Jason's mother. Jason's mother looked back at him. They both looked at Jason. But he just played his game.
An hour later, Jason's father came home. It was dinner time after his father washed up and sat down. Jason didn't even hear his name being called to the table. He didn't hear his father walk up
behind him and ask him to turn the game off, either. When the screen suddenly went black and his father's angry face appeared in front of him, Jason finally heard. "No more game for a month." Jason's father shouted at him. "You don't play basketball, you don't come to dinner, and you don't do your housework. We'll make sure everything else gets done before you play any more.”
Jason nodded slowly. He knew better than to quarrel with his father, and when he thought about it, he had been playing quite a bit. It was fun, but he was letting down (使失望) his friends, his family, and himself by playing too much.
He'd try harder in the future.
