Have you ever wondered?
1. Why do airplanes take longer to fly west than east?
It can take five hours to go west-east from New York (NY) to London but seven hours to travel east-west from London to NY. The reason for the difference is an atmospheric phenomenon (大气现象) known as the jet stream (气流). The jet stream is a very high altitude (=" above" sea level) wind which always blows from the west to the east across the Atlantic. So the planes moving at a constant air speed go faster from the west to the east when they are moving with the wind than in the opposite.
2. What would happen if the gravity on Earth was suddenly turned off?
Supposing we could magically turn off gravity. Would buildings and other structures(建筑物)float away? What happened would depend on (依靠) how strongly the things were attached (吸附) to the earth. The earth is moving at quite a speed, moving at over a thousand miles per hour. If you turn something around your head on a string, it goes around in a circle until you let go of the string. Then it flies off in a straight line. ‘Turning off’ gravity would be like letting go of the string. Things not attached to the earth would fly off in a straight line. People in buildings would suddenly shoot upwards at a great speed until they hit the ceiling (=" top" surface of a room). Most things outside would fly off into space.

When my wife left this world, I chose to travel in Antigua looking for a peaceful place to rest my old body. Not quite old and weak, I felt I wanted something more than the usual hotel room with 24-hour room service.
I decided this year to try something completely new and booked myself a private holiday home in Antigua. This was the best decision I had ever made, as there was plenty to do, plenty to see and lots of lovely restaurants to visit. There was a private swimming pool, and a cool, wide yard where I ate my breakfast most mornings.
Antigua has to be one of the loveliest places on earth to spend a holiday. The bright blue sea and the endless blue around the beach areas proved to be an excellent place for me to spend the long afternoons.
I had to hurry to do what I wanted to do before the holiday came to an end. I managed to visit the Sugar Mill and Shirley Heights on my last two days and yet found myself wondering whether I could extend for a few more days.
I rented a boat and came home after a day’s sailing, refreshed, looking forward to dinner. Everything is so pleasant on these beautiful islands, swept by the trade winds and warmed by the sun for so many summer months. The food just tasted better to me, perhaps because I was having such a great holiday. There was always someone to have a drink with---- that’s what I liked most.

Teachers say buying homework answers online is not many in schools, but an interview with school students shows only 10% are willing to finish their holiday homework by themselves.
Their main complaint is that the homework is too much for them to finish.
“As far as ! know, many of my students have to go to all kinds of training classes during the holiday. These lake away much of their time for doing homework.”
But as for the parents who are sending their children to these training classes they also say they've got no choice. Here's a view from a student's father.
"All the other kids in the neighborhood are learning extra things. You know parents sometimes compare their kids. I'm afraid my kid will be less successful than the others in the future."
In order to do with this situation of students copying each other's homework, some schools have even dropped the idea of holiday homework. Instead, they organize some interesting outdoor activities.
Educational experts say students love to learn through games or activities that they can be a part of‘ They suggest schools drop the current (目前的)homework format (设计),and turn to homework that encourages kids to get involved (参与).This way, they would no longer want to copy from each other or buy answers through the Internet.
Answer the following questions according to what you read.
1.Why do students copy or buy homework answers?
