    　　John lived in France with his mother．When he was twenty two, he said to his mother, “I’m going to fly to London tomorrow, because I’ve got a job there．”

    　　“Where are you staying there?” his mother asked．

    　　“Please send me your address from there in a telegram(电报)，”his mother said．

    　　“All right,” John answered．

    　　He flew to London on March 2nd and found a nice hotel in the center of the city．He put his things in his room and then he sent his mother a telegram．He wrote the address of the hotel in it．

    　　In the evening, he was free, so he went to a movie．He came out at ten o’clock and said，“Now I’m going to go back to the hotel and have a nice dinner．”

    　　Once a rich woman invited（邀请）Martin Brown, a famous（著名的）singer, to her house. She wanted him to sing for her friends. But she didn’t invite him to have dinner with them. She told him to eat downstairs with the servants（仆人）.

    　　The singer was surprised（感到惊奇）. But he said nothing and went downstairs. After the meal he stood up and said to the servants：“Now my good friends, I shall sing for you.”Of course, the servants were pleased. He sang them several songs. When they asked for more, he sang more.

    　　“Yes, Madam. ”said the singer.
