题目列表(包括答案和解析)

What’s the most important thing for you to have in your life? Somebody mentions hard-work, others suggest knowledge, love and luck.

If you arrange the 26 English letters alphabetically(按字母表的顺序)and use numbers to represent each of them, for example, 1 for a, 2 for b, 3 for c…, you can change an English word into a number. So hard-work becomes 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11=98, meaning 98 is its mark; knowledge: 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5=96, while love: 12+15+22+5=54, and luck: 12+21+3+11=47, a small mark. None of these words can give one a full mark. What about money? It can’t , either.

Then what else? Don’t be worried. You can always find an answer to a problem in your life, when you change your way of looking at things or doing things, or your attitude. Yes, attitude is the word. See for yourself: attitude:1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100,a full mark.

Most times people hope for a better life. It is possible if you will have a change for the better after you have changed your attitude. When you change your manner and become friendly to others, you’ll meet more smiling faces towards you.

Several years ago, a television reporter was interviewing three of the most important people from local businesses. One was a very rich banker, another owned one of the largest companies in the world, and the third owned many buildings in the center of New York.

The reporter was talking to them about being important.

“How do we know if someone is really important?” the reporter asked the banker.

If you ever cross a road in a foreign country, be careful! Traffic rules are often different there!

Before you cross the street, you always look right first, not left! Cars drive in the opposite direction. Give yourself enough time to cross the road. Cars go much faster in Britain.

So why do the British drive on the left when most of the world drives on the right?

Hundreds of years ago, almost every one drove on the left. Why? Men used their right hands to draw their swords while they rode their horses. If an enemy came toward them they would have their swords ready in the middle of the road to start fighting. Napoleon, the great French leader, was left-handed. Some say that's why Europeans drive on the right side!

About a quarter of the world's people drive on the left. Australians and New Zealanders do. Americans drive on the fight like us.
