My phone rings a lot．But most of the time it’s not for me．It’s for my cat!Well, the caller doesn’t want to talk to my cat．He wants to talk about it．
I called it Stoop because I found it there．I found the cat in the snow and kept it in my house．But it wouldn’t let himself be an apartment cat．In spring, he found his way to the streets of the city．How?By climbing down a tree outside my window!I wanted to make sure that it would always come home, so I bought a little collar with a tag．I wrote my phone number on it．
And then my phone began to ring．One call was from a man whom I hadn’t seen in years．He said he stopped a cat the other day(a few days ago)and got my number．He told me that he just wanted his money back．
Another call was from a chef(cook)．He said a lot of cats took food from his kitchen and caught my cat．He asked me to pay for the cat’s supper．
But things aren’t always bad．Late one night the phone rang．A woman’s voice shouted at me, “Come get your cat!It is chasing my cat in my house!”
I went over to get my cat．“I am sorry,” I said．But she shut the door on both of us．Two nights later, my little cat did it again．But this time I took along a box of chocolate for the woman and a toy mouse for her cat．She liked that．She smiled．We went out to dinner together．
She is Helen．Now my phone often rings．But I think it is for me．She often calls．When she does, she doesn’t want to talk about my cat．She wants to talk about us．
