Last July, my 12-year-old car died on California's Santa Freeway. It was an hour before sunset, and I was 25 miles from home.I couldn't reach anyone to pick me up, so I decided to take a bus.Not knowing the routes, I thought I'd just go east.

A bus stopped.I got on and asked the driver how far she was going.“Ten more miles,” she said. There was another bus I could take from here. This clearly was going to be a long night.

I got off at the end of the route and she told me which bus to look for. After waiting 30 minutes, I began to think about a very expensive taxi ride home. Then a bus came up.There was no light number above its windshield. It was out of service, but the door opened. It was the same driver.

“I just can't leave you here,” she said.“This isn't the nicest place.I will give you a ride home.”

“You will drive me home on the bus?” I asked, astonished.

“No, I will take you in my car,” she said.

  “It's a long way,” I insisted.

“Come on,” she said.“I have nothing else to do.”

As we drove from the station in the car, she began telling me a story.A few days earlier, her brother had run out of gas.A good man picked him up, took him to a service station and then back to his car.“I'm just passing the favour(善意的行为)along,”she said.

When I offered her money as a thank-you, she wouldn't accept.“Just do something nice for somebody.Pass it along,” she said.

It's not easy to be an astronaut's son.Everybody expects you to be special or perfect.I often wonder how my father ever had a son like me.I mean he's so special and so good at everything he does.Even in middle school he was class president and captain of the football team.

The third prize was announced and it was not me.I was relieved(释然)and disappointed at the same time. The second prize was announced. It was me.

I went up to the stage and read what I had written,“My father's son”.When I finished, the people stood up and cheered.I saw my father blowing his nose.Tears were running down my mother's face.Dad cleared his throat and put his hand on my shoulder.“Son, this is the proudest moment of my life.”

It was the proudest moment of my life, too.Maybe I'll never be a great hero or win a Nobel Prize, but it was enough just to be my father's son.

I got up very early this morning. My parents took Lily and me to a small village. We visited a farmer's house there. We went there in a big bus with lots of other people.

Everybody called the farmer Uncle Li, and his wife Aunty Li. They were very happy to see us. They had a big house, a sitting-room and a kitchen in it. They were all clean and tidy. We sat in the sitting-room for a short time. There was a round table in the middle of the room. On it were cups of tea, bottles of orange, fruit and nuts. I like the peanuts very much.

Uncle Li's house was not far from a lake. From the lake they could catch fish. We saw his ducks swimming in the lake.

There were a few fruit trees behind his house and there was a vegetable garden. Uncle Li grew tomatoes, cabbages and peas. Near the garden there was a small house. It was full of farm animals. Uncle Li told us he often went to town to sell his chickens, ducks, fish and vegetables.

There are five people in Uncle Li's family. They are always very busy, but they feel very happy.

True or False

1.Lily and Lucy went to the farm house by themselves.
