  Long, long ago, there lived a fisherman in a village near the sea. One day the fisherman set out in a small boat. After he had got a good place for fishing, he threw a long rope with many hooks (钓) into the water. Before he had finished doing it, it became very heavy. He thought it seemed too heavy to be a fish, and began to draw (拉) the rope.

  When the hooks came out of the water, he was surprised, for the hooks were holding some golden chains (金链). When he pulled them, more and more golden chains came out. Soon there was a large pile of the golden chains in his boat.

  “I shall be very rich,” he said to himself. “I can sell the chain for a lot of money. With the money I shall buy a new boat and some new nets. I shall build a house. I shall be the richest man in the world.”

  He went on drawing more golden chains. But he felt so pleased that he did not notice what was happening to his boat. It began to sink (沉) . As he was pulling the golden chains, the boat sank into the sea. He lost not only all the golden chains but also his boat and his life.
