　　In general（一般来说）people talk about two groups of colours：warm colours and cool colours. Scientists think that there are also two groups of people：people who prefer（更喜欢）warm colours and people who prefer cool colours.

　　The warm colours are red, orange and yellow. Where there are warm colours and a lot of light, people usually want to be active（积极的）. People think that red is exciting, sociable（善交际的）people, those who like to be with others like red. The cool colours are green, blue and purple. These colours unlike warm colours, are relaxing. 　　Red may be exciting but one scientist says that time seems to pass more slowly in a room with warm colours than in a room with cool colours. He suggested（建议）that a warm colour such as red or orange, is a good colour for a living room or a restaurant. People who are relaxing or eating don't want time to pass quickly. Cool colours are better for offices as the people who work there want time to pass quickly. Scientists don't know why people think some colours are warm and other colours are cool. However, almost everyone agrees that warm colours remind（使想起）people of warm days and cool colours remind them of cool days. Because in the north the sun is low during winter, the sunlight appears quite blue. And the sun is higher during summer, the hot summer sunlight appears yellow.

Even a child knows that nodding（点头）the head means“Yes”. But some people will probably be puzzled（迷惑的）when they first come to India. When they talk to an Indian, he often shakes（摇）his head. They might think that the Indian does not like what he said, but on the contrary, he is telling yes.

The Indians have a habit of shaking their heads slightly when they talk to somebody. It doesn't mean“ No”, but“Yes”.

If a person doesn't know this, it might cause misunderstanding（误解）.

At one time a foreigner in India told his driver who was an Indian to take him to his office. The driver shook his head. The foreigner said his request again and the driver still shook his head.
