If you had only three years left to live, how would you spend your time? It’s a hard question and few of us would even like to think about it. But 18-year-old Huang Ge has to answer this question and he says, “I want to thank the people who have helped me.”
At the age of one, Huang’s mother left the family. Six years later, he was badly ill. He has been using a wheelchair since 9 years old. Doctors said he would only live to 18.After Huang’s story went on TV, hundreds of people sent money to help him. The boy was so moved that he decided to thank every one of them. But he has to be tied to his wheelchair. And the family can only afford a three-wheeled motorcycle(三轮摩托). Since 2003, the father and son have traveled 14,000 kilometers, to 10 provinces, and thanked more than 30 helpers.

I grew up in a town called Estepna, living with my father. One morning, when I was sixteen, dad told me I could drive him into a faraway village called Mijas, on condition that (条件是). I took the car to be serviced (维护) at a nearby garage. I happily accepted (接受). I drove Dad into Mijas, and promised to pick him up at 4 p.m., then got the car to the garage. Then I went to a theatre. However, when the last movie finished, it was six. I was two hours late!
I knew Dad would be angry if he found out I'd been watching movies. So I decided not to tell him the truth. When l hurried there I apologized (道歉) for being late, and told him I'd come as quickly as I could, but the car had needed some big repairs. I' ll never forget the look he gave me. "I' m disappointed you decided to lie to me, Jason." Dad looked at me again. "When you didn't turn up, I called the garage to ask if there were any problems, and they told me you hadn't yet picked up the car." I felt ashamed (羞愧) as I told him the real reason. A sadness passed through dad as he listened carefully, "I'm angry with myself. I realized I had failed as a father. I'm going to walk home now and think seriously about where I have gone wrong all these years." "But Dad, it' s eighteen miles!"
My apologies were useless. Dad walked home that day. I drove behind him, following him all the way, but he walked silently.
