Basketball is a young game though it is over a hundred years old.  In the year of 1891, a certain
college was having some trouble with its boy students. The weather was bad. They had to stay indoors.
As they could not take part in their usual outdoor sports, they were unhappy, and some of them even
got into fights from time to time.  Finally, one of the teachers at the college asked Dr. Naismith to invent
a game so that the students might have something to play. It was not easy to invent a game because it had
to be played indoors, and the court was not very large.  Dr. Naismith thought for a few days and invented a kind of ball game. It was a fast, exciting game with much moving and passing of the ball. Usually two teams played the game.,  In order to make a score, the ball had to be thrown into a basket ten feet above the floor on the wall. At each end of the court there was such a basket. At first, Dr. Naismith had planned to
have the ball thrown into a box. As he could not find boxes of the right size, he had to use fruit baskets.
Dr. Naismith put two fruit baskets on the walls of both sides. There were nine plavers on each side. The
players tried to throw the ball into the baskets.  There were no holes at the bottom of the baskets.  When
a ball went into the basket, it stayed there.  The game had to stop.  A player had to climb up to get the
ball out. Later people used net baskets. Now only ten members play the game. There are five players on
each side. Basketball today is played in many countries.

Which country grows the most tea? The answer is India. It grows three times as much as China. Which
country drinks the most tea? It's neither China nor Japan. It's Great Britain.
In the wild, tea plants may be 30 feet tall. But a plant grown for market is pruned (修剪). Pruning keeps
the plant only three or four feet tall. This is an easy height for tea picking. Only the two top leaves and bud
of each new shoot are picked. So to make money, tea plantations must be huge.
In general, there are two kinds of tea. Black tea and green tea. Black tea is fermented (发酵). In the
process, the tea loses nearly all of its healthy qualities. Green tea is steamed (蒸炒) right after the leaves are
picked. Green tea retains its healthy qualities. For example, it may prevent heart disease.
How did we get tea bag? The answer: by accident. Tea merchants (商人) used to send samples in tin
boxes. This was costly. One merchant thought of a cheaper way. He sent samples in small silk bags.
Customers would cut open the bag. They would brew the leaves as usual. One customer put the bag into
a pot. Then he just poured (倒) hot water over it. And the tea bag was born.
Shen Nong was the first to drink tea. (Shen was a Chinese emperor. ) This was about 2737 B. C. Shen
had bad digestion. So he drank several cups of hot water dai- ly. One day something happened. Leaves from
a wild tea tree fell into the hot water pot. The next cup was poured. The water was now colored. Shen
sipped it. He liked it. He drank it all. Shen was proud of his new drink. He served it to his guests. Word spread.
People thought this way. Tea is good enough for the Emperor. So it must be good enough for the people. Tea
became the drink of China.
