We have so many first days in our lives. First days are milestones(Àï³Ì±®) in our lives. They 36 the beginning of a new experience or journey and they are also filled with¡¡ 37¡¡ feelings. They can be a little frightening as we step into the unknown, but they can also inspire us as they give us fresh¡¡ 38 for the future.

I want to share a 39 that perfectly shows this point. Trisha was told that 40 is the key to knowledge. She watched her older brother 41 he read his schoolbooks and could hardly 42 the day when she would learn to read.

But after Trisha 43 started school, she found that she was not able to understand words like the other boys and girls. However hard she 44 , she saw only confusion. Trisha 45 , the teacher and the other children laughing at her, and she began to believe that she was not ¡¡46 .

By the time Trisha entered the fifth grade, she had lost the 47 in herself. That was the year when she met Mr. Falker. He was 48 . He praised Trisha¡¯s talents, and he wouldn¡¯t tolerate the other children laughing at her. After some time, Mr. Falker 49 that Trisha didn¡¯t know how to read, but he knew she could 50 some help.

He found an expert, and together they 51 with Trisha after school. They 52 her to understand words ¡¡53 one day Mr. Falker handed her a book and she could read it all by herself. She didn¡¯t even notice the tears in his eyes.

This is a true story. The little girl is Patricia Polacco, a famous 54 , and Thank you Mr. Falker is the twenty-sixth book that she has written. Mr. Falker gave her a fresh new 55 and made a difference in her life.

Since I have been in my new neighborhood, I have had the pleasure of meeting a few of my neighbors. My ¡¡ gift 36 was to make small fruit baskets and leave them on each of my neighbors¡¯ front gate the night of Christmas Eve for them to find. I ¡¡37 the cards: ¡°Happy Holidays from 5104 Northumberland Road.¡±

I saved the friendly lady for last, since I was still not exactly 38 where she lived. I ¡¡39 decided upon a house nearby where I ¡¡40 her each morning and felt relatively sure that it was hers.

This morning I noticed a small ¡¡41 inside the mailbox. It was addressed simply ¡ª Resident, 5104 Northumberland Road. I opened the ¡¡42 and took out a Thank You card. The ¡¡43¡¡ said, ¡°Thank you for the lovely fruit basket you ¡¡44 on the gate of Richard Kelly. It was very ¡¡45 ¡¡of you. Richard Kelly passed away half a month ago. He never stopped ¡¡46 ¡¡about how nice it was that someone remembered him in his time of ¡¡47 . He really appreciated it.¡±

I was sincerely ¡¡48 . I had no idea who Richard Kelly was or that he had been 49 ill. I had left that ¡¡nice lady¡¯s basket on Mr Kelly¡¯s porch by ¡¡50 . I wanted to say by mistake, but that would be wrong. I believe that Richard Kelly was ¡¡51 to have that basket. I hate that the lady did not ¡¡52 a fruit basket from me, but I believe that ¡¡53 she knew what had happened, she would not have had the outcome any other way.

I feel blessed to have made Richard Kelly¡¯s last days more ¡¡54 . This just further strengthen my belief that there are never any ¡¡55 in life.

With excitement and enthusiasm we started our small business. No longer were we 1 to have a weekly paycheck (¹¤×Ê). We now were on our own to 2 an income to provide us with the money to live. I was a little 3 about our ability to do this. But, Byron believed in our products, and believed in our ability to 4 .

We invested heavily in producing a number of products, 5¡¡ none of them are popular with customers. The market gave us so heavy a 6 that we hardly made enough money to pay our expenses.

We now had our money 7 in the booth (»õ̯) that we had rented for the summer and fall months. We had a lot of money 8 up in materials. So we did not have enough money to 9 our monthly bills. We were discouraged, and the thoughts of failure ran through our heads.

¡¡ As we discussed our 10 , I happened to read the words by Mary Pickford: "If you have made mistakes... there is always another chance for you... you may have a 11 start any moment you choose, for this thing we call ¡®Failure¡¯ is not falling down, but 12 down."

¡¡ The words strengthen my determination and Byron's ¡¡13¡¡ that we could succeed. We did fall down, but we were ¡¡14¡¡ not to stay down! So, we stepped back and refocused. We came up with new products using remaining 15 . We redesigned our booth. We reconsidered our pricing system. And, we started making enough money to pay our 16 .

¡¡ If we had done nothing, if we allowed ourselves to "stay down", then we would have 17 . But we made the choice to learn from our 18 , and we moved forward with more determination. These words ¡¡19¡¡ a much better idea on failure ---- a chance for a fresh start! The most important point here is "choice" because you decide how you 20 your failure, you decide if you stay down.

I was truly afraid of the dark and of getting lost when I was a child. These fears were very real and often caused me some uncomfortable moments.

Perhaps it was the strange _36_ things looked and sounded in my familiar room at night that _37_ me so much. There was never complete _38_, but a streetlight or passing car lights _39_ clothes hung over a chair take on the _40_ of a wild animal. Out of the corner of my _41_, I saw the curtains seem to move when there was no _42_. A tiny sound in the floor would seem a hundred times louder than in the daylight. My _43_ would run wild, and my heart would beat fast. I would _44_ very still so that the ¡°enemy¡± would not discover me.

Another of my childhood fears was that I would get lost, _45_ on the way home from school. Every morning I got on the school bus right near my home. That was no 46_. After school, _47_, when all the buses were _48_ up along the street, I was afraid that I¡¯d get in the wrong one and be taken to some _49_ neighborhood. On school or family trips to a park or a museum, I wouldn¡¯t _50_ the leaders out of my sight.

Perhaps one of the worst fears _51_ all I had as a child was that of not being liked or _52_ by others. Being popular was so important to me _53_, and the fear of not being liked was a _54_ one.

One of the processes(¹ý³Ì)of growing up is being able to _55_ and overcome our

fears. Understanding the things that frightened us as children help us achieve greater success later in life.
