¡¡¡¡¡¡ You Are Going Places
One day I came home from school, changed my clothes and got ready for work. I work at a local restaurant in town as a cashier and waiter.
¡¡¡¡¡¡ I went to work feeling ¡¡21¡¡ . And to make matters worse, I was busy that evening. It' s the same thing over and over again. 22 with customers who complain about their food and where they are 23 is too big or too small. Little things like that tend to 24 a lot of us 25 but we manage to deal with it.
¡¡¡¡¡¡ Three elderly ladies walked in and sat by the windows. It happened to be the very 26 near where I keep the dirty 27 in the boxes. Trying to keep up with all the dirty tables, customers leaving and coming in and 28 running all over the house, it was crazy. 29 these elderly women were watching 30 I was working to make sure every table was clean and ready for the next customers.
¡¡¡¡¡¡ When they 31 their meals, I took their plates back to the kitchen. They talked to me for a while about school, how I was doing, what 32 I was in and what I planned to do in the future.
¡¡¡¡¡¡ 33 they were leaving, they walked past me and one of them said to me in a 34 and gentle voice, ¡°You are going places.¡± And that was it. They left the 35 and I had tears in my eyes, because they gave me 36 to believe in myself. They 37 my spirit from being down and gave me a 38 to keep on working hard.
¡¡¡¡¡¡ People used to tell me that I couldn¡¯t have a career in 39 until I had a degree. I'm now a co-anchor £¨ÁªºÏÖ÷³ÖÈË£©of a student-produced television 40 . And the best thing is: I'm only 17 years old and I am a senior in high school.

It has been difficult to sit on the bench the majority of my high school basketball career. To watch my team from the sideline and ¡¡21 ?why I am not good enough to be on the floor. 22 endless hours of work and devotion, pushing myself through drill after drill, the ¡¡23 thing I want is to be a cheerleader. The feeling of being ¡¡24 is sometimes too much and drives me to 25 on the spot. I often feel as though my efforts are wasted and my time is eaten away, devoted to ¡¡26¡¡ .
It is heartbreaking to be a spectator(ÅÔ¹ÛÕß) for the game I love, knowing that no one has enough ¡¡27 to give me the chance to ¡¡28 on the floor. Tears well up, but I hold them back. I shouldn¡¯t be so ¡¡29 over something so silly.
Away from the game, it¡¯s easier to put my thoughts together, ¡¡30 letting my emotions drive my reasoning. I consider ¡¡31 I am where I am. I have played basketball my whole life. I have a passion for the ¡¡32 and always have. There is nothing like the excitement of ¡¡33 : the swish of the net, the sweat rolling off my cheeks, even the bruises(ÇàÖ×) are battle wounds worn ¡¡34 after every game.
Even if I don¡¯t play much, I participate in every ¡¡35 . I am part of a team of girls who
36¡¡ together like a family. I am there for them, ¡¡37 they are for me.
Should I move on? Or should I stay with my team and pursue my passion just a little longer?
The decision isn¡¯t difficult when I consider the ¡¡38¡¡ that being a part of a team brings me¡ª and not just any team, ¡¡39 my team. I love basketball and my teammates. When I think about that, my view from the bench really isn¡¯t so bad ¡¡ 40¡¡ .

Tears clouded my eyes as I stood in our washing room, holding Brett's jeans and shirt full of burn holes.
Tired and defeated, I 21 to the floor. The clothes were just one more thing Brett had 22 . He often got almost everything in the house out of 23 . Many windows in our house needed repair due to his breaking 24 to steal money when he chose to live on the street. Yet none of this could compare to the emotional 25 Brett had done to our once quiet home.
Brett came to live with us when he was 12 years old. During the next few years I had dealt with Brett as 26 as possible, but inside I was shouting,"I don't want him in my house another day, Lord! I just can't 27 him!" Having wiped my tears, I continued 28 him as before.
When Brett was nearly 18, he landed again in Juvenile Hall(ÉÙ¹ÜËù). After that, my husband and I had to send Brett to a boarding school for helping 29 teens.
At the 30 ceremony, each graduate held a white rose to give to the person who had 31 the most to him or her.
Brett spoke 32 to his parents and then spoke to me, "You did so much. You were always there, no matter 33 happened. My mom and dad, I was their kid. But you, 34 troubled enough by me, always 35 me such love. And I want you to know I love you for it."
36 , I stood as Brett placed the white rose in my hand and hugged me 37 .
At that moment, tears 38 in my eyes again, this time not for disappointment but for 39 . Although I had struggled with silent 40 toward my stepson, Brett had seen only my actions. Love is action. We may not always have positive feelings about certain people in our lives, but we can love them.
